Hive: What An Amazing Week

in LeoFinance5 years ago

It was one week ago that Hive came online.

And what an amazing week it was.

The fork from Steem went off well. When we consider the fact that this was in the making for only a few weeks, the fact that the fork itself took place without a hitch is incredible. Since that time, the blockchain did not go down but for a DDOS attack. Outside of that, blocks production was flawless.

Of course, when things did go live, the services were behind the curve. This is only natural since they really could not do much until things were in operation. Throughout the day last Friday, we saw progress almost on an hourly basis.

At this time, I think it is apt to give major kudos to the development teams throughout the ecosystem. They all did a wonderful job, not only with the blockchain but also the applications that we have come to love.

On the front end, we have Hive.blog and Peakd to use. These are the counterparts to Steemit.com and Steempeak. Both worked throughout the week although some features were missing, especially on Hive.blog. One of the major updates was the addition of the Hive wallet. This went live the other day.

A site was set up to monitor the DApp that transitioned over to Hive.

Steem2Hive monitors the total DApps and where they stand with the two blockchains.

While 14 have switched, the number that were on Steem before the hard fork numbers in the 70s. What this tells me is that some have turned off their services on Steem and could be in the process of transitioning over.

Here we can see some of the ranking on Stateofthedapps.com.

@eonwarped put out a post detailing the progress on getting Tribes to work on Hive as well as Steem. This provides the Tribe owners with the option of where they reside.

A number of Tribes are already on Hive.

There are many other things that I could write about here but it would end up getting way too long. We now have the ability to set autovoters. Just this morning I saw a post by @holger80 talking about his rewarding.app that is now live on Hive.

One thing we need to mention is that HIVE is now being traded on a number of exchanges. While slow to start, in addition to Blocktrades and Steem-Engine, we saw Bittrex and Binance establish pairs. The token is now listed on Coingecko and Coinmarketcap.com.

Unfortunately, neither site has HIVE accurately ranked since the marketcap is not being calculated as of yet. Here is a snapshot from Coingecko.

As we can see, the excitement of Hive translated, thus far, into the token price. We will see if this is nothing more than an early pump or a foundation being set.

With the attention the Steem community received during the stand-off with Justin Sun, we could be witnessing newer entrants into this market.

Regardless of what is taking place there, I think we can safely say that Hive had an amazing first week.

Now on to Week 2.

It's really awesome to see how the community was so strong to turn their backs on steemit and nourish the idea into a different project.

I also love how many developers also support hive but seeing it from a business perspective, it would not me smart to do it any different because it's very little investment for a free additional turnover.

It IS amazing ... to have been here from day 1 ... such a counterpoint to what is going on in the world ... what a privilege...

I keep adding to my google doc with posts ready for my new token. Was gonna launch on the other blockchain and decided to wait until I could do it properly aka on hives.

The bots are still upvoting me on steem - so I will continue sharing dlike articles there. Some dapps were just made for that place. THIS place, is for writers and community - waaaaay better.

You bring up a very valid point @metzli.

There are certain applications that are tailor made for Steem. Dlike is one that never went over well with the blogging community. It is ideal for Steem.

More serious stuff belongs on Hive.

While slow to start, in addition to Blocktrades and Steem-Engine

Steem-Engine? Cool, didn’t know that. I’ve done one teeny experimental buy through ionomy.com (@ionomy) that went off without a hitch. But tried two smallish buys today. In both cases, I was able to do Steem > BTC > Hive just fine but have now been waiting several hours for the tokens to show up in my Hive wallet.

There is no a HIVEP token on Steem Engine. You can convert your STEEMP to HIVEP.

It cannot be withdrawn as of yet until the Hive interface is done.

But if you want to get some of your holdings out of STEEM into HIVE, that is a way to do it.

It's been quite the ride so far... love the transition and that peakd is 4th already... com'on - that's crazy! Apps coming online, HIVE pumping... great time to be involved.

p.s. The FOODIE Tribe/Community tribe is also HIVE enabled! YEah!

Good to know. Another tribe made the transition.

FOODIE is now on Hive.

You can feel it in the air, the excitement surrounding Hive! I think some of the devs and witnesses have gotten a second wind and enthusiasm is high because there seems to be nothing but open road ahead. For the first time ever, there doesn't seem to be any dark clouds hovering over the future of our blockchain.

I think things will, regardless of what the price does in the short term, keep getting better and better.

Hive on!!!

You can feel it in the air, the excitement surrounding Hive!

I am glad that I am not the only who feels it.

There is a renewed excitement taking place. The hope is that it stays at an elevated level.

If all this progress has been made in this short time, what lies in the future of Hive! 😁
Do you have any thought on what will happen next?

I think, @anderssinho, that we see a continuation of what we saw. More apps will get things converted over during the next few weeks while ironing out some issues.

On a bigger scale, I dont have an idea of what is going to take place There will be another fork coming up that adds more features from what some were saying but I have no idea what they are.

So great to see that everything continues to progress nicely! I just downloaded the new ESteem Android app from Github. It works flawlessly. We have been waiting for 3 days for Google Playstore to get it listed. Hopefully that will happen soon, as I know many users are lost without esteemapp on their phones!

That should help the activity on the site. If the mobile users were blocked, we could see a major boost on that end.

Hopefully Google has some healthy employees who can get the app reviewed and listed soon!

How great to see so much work to improve everything, I am one of those who is waiting @melinda010100 nothing like publishing and doing everything for my cell phone

I'll let you know as soon as I see it become available!

Thanks so much 💕☺

Weedcash also uses HIVE..

Very good catch. The stoners know what they are doing. 😁

Yes, things were missing or buggy at first but give the magic time to get back to functionality. I think most of us can but put up with the quirks, delays, and missing posts for now. It will get better!

I agree @kerrislravenhill. Things will keep progressing on a regular basis. There are too many projects looking to ascend to the next level.

In steem the activity decreased considerably until it fell to 15th place in the main blockchains when it was previously among the top 5. On the other hand, in HIVE the activity curve is growing exponentially, people feel motivated with this new start and the token has a very good value.

I think the best is yet to come :)

I would agree. We are seeing a lot of people re-invigorated over the fork. Hive, in my view, is the opportunity that many of us were excited about on Steem that did not come to fruition.

Its been fairly a productive and successful week. Considering the amount of engagement on Hive one would think Hive has been a month or two old.
Many thanks to the development team and the community at large.

We will see how things look in a month or two. Hopefully the engagement you speak of keeps increasing.

The constant updates of services coming available for hive is just exhilarating. Open source at it’s finest if you ask me.

Thanks for information, I wasn't expecting so many dApps on HIVE already

When do we expect that we'll stop having our posts duplicated on the Steem blockchain?

this is a question I asked myself too.

thanks for the share on the tribe side.. Much appreciated!

It's just a week but we're already light-years away from Steemit.
