Over the last couple years, a strong foundation was put into place that separates Hive from the rest of the blockchain world. Building on tenets such as censorship resistant and account ownership, we are watching infrastructure going into place that will alter many industries.
At the top of the list is the SpkNetwork. This started as a concept to create decentralized video storage. It expanded to become a great deal more. Here we have a project that is going to offer a new mode of cloud storage that was not available to content creators before. Communities are going to be able to house their own data, absolving the threat of being silenced by major corporations.
Unfortunately, infrastructure takes a long time to develop. It is a slow process that, from the outside, doesn't show much progress. With the SpkNetwork nearing the end of its first phase, we will see a testnet going live in the next few weeks.
This is just one piece of the puzzle. The true change occurs when the next layer is approached.
That is what we will concentrate upon in this article.
Decentralized Broadcasting
Have you heard of the "independent media"?
This is the idea that sources are popping up outside the mainstream media. Originally bloggers would post articles about different topics. After that, we saw the emergence of video. This led to some amateurish productions that were often labeled as conspiracy theory.
Over time, things evolved. Essentially, this was driven by the fact that video creation, editing and distribution became very inexpensive. No longer was costly equipment and studios required. People were literally producing "shows" from their basements.
Most are content creators in the traditional, Internet sense. A video is made and posted on a platform such as YouTube. This is not the end of it. Today, there are some powerful people who produce shows outside the mainstream media. Many were involved in that business over the years but now operation on their own.
Ultimately, they put together some professional productions. The sole difference it they are not backed by the major media conglomerates.
This is the world of decentralized broadcasting. People can turn to the digital world for their content creation and consumption. In fact, the numbers reveal that is what is taking place.
Independent media equals decentralized media.
Web 3.0
By now, most of us are aware of the difference between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0. The next generation of Internet is going to change many variables. It is going to radically alter the decentralized broadcasting model.
As stated, much of it centers around censorship resistance and account ownership. For most, they are at the mercy of platforms such as YouTube. While they do not have management like at a major media outlet dictating what can be said, there are the terms of service of Google to content with. We also are aware how people get their accounts silenced, often without explanation.
The SpkNetwork will change that. Due to decentralized data storage, nobody has the ability to close an account or cut one off from his or her data. Multi-node systems like is utilized for blockchain means that non-related entities are housing the data. This can be either community members related to the content or people who simply provide infrastructure. Either way, we can see how this differs from YouTube.
At this point in the story, we are still dealing with the underlying development. This is not something that is useful for the average individual but a far cry from providing the means to offer a viable alternative to what is presently taking place.
Here is where the Hive Broadcasting Network seeks to take things to another level.
Decentralized Broadcasting Reimagined
There is an initiative taking place being forged by the main ones behind the SpkNetwork. If you watched the CTT show over the last month or so, we can see how things are changing.
That show was getting an upgrade with jingles being produced. We also saw editors being incentivized to crop the content and distribute it in smaller pieces.
What we are watching is the foundation for the next layer: the Hive Broadcasting Network.
By the way, this is a name I conjured up. This might not be what it is called. However, the main premise is to get multiple content creators publishing under one brand. This will offer editing and content management by a team of professionals. It would make sense that the goal is to increase the quality of the content being distributed, seeking to highlight the capabilities of Web 3.0.
Obviously, we are dealing with a spectrum. Consider the average YouTube video versus the productions of Joe Rogan or Russell Brand. The latter obviously have larger sums of money tied to their projects, providing that mainstream feel. Nevertheless, there are "basement" operations covering every subject imaginable. The difference is we have tens of thousands of them out there.
What is fascinating about what this team is doing is they seek to create a cookie cutter operation. This is something that others will be able to duplicate.
Evolution Forward
The obvious goal over time is improvement. Present starting point, like the early days of decentralized broadcasting was rather non-professional. Nevertheless, it is vital to start somewhere.
With video editing and content management, the ability to move up the scale in terms of professionalism is offered. This is the first step.
Naturally, the goal is to attract others individuals or communities (teams) who seek to develop their own brands. This can either be centered around a specific topic (or production) or a series of creators they assemble.
The unifying factor is the protocol. As developers pick up these tools, the protocol becomes the centerpiece of the broadcasting model. Brands are individual but tied to the same underlying technology. Content is stored separately with indexes being able to search what is desired. This vastly affects the YouTube model.
In conclusion, it is important to realize that infrastructure is the slow part of the process. Once that is in place, the development on top is usually a lot quicker and more noticeable for people.
While the infrastructure was being developed, a team was assembled to start the process of increase the professionalism of the content while creating a Web 3.0 brand.
The evolution of Hive continues.

It's exciting to see how this project wants to make a standard process that others can copy, so that more people and places can build their own brands around the protocol. Infrastructure is the slow part, as you said, but it's good to see that the groundwork has been laid for a future where decentralised broadcasting is the rule. I'm excited to see how the Hive Broadcasting Network develops and what new content generation and distribution options it opens up.
Duplicatable is vital. The fact they want to provide the resources which others can easily tap into is crucial. This is how we get explosive growth.
Imagine having the infrastructure and templates for people to utilize. This could be something that attracts a number of people quickly.
The future of hive is multiple front ends from unstoppable domains being hosted from decentralized locations and all the different parts involved are incentivized to benefit and profit from the interaction of the community and the economy within it
I would agree. It is going to take some transition but I agree with you. We are seeing industries decentralized.
The digital world changes everything.
HBN... Whats the motto? Do we need one?
LOL I just popped the name off the top of my head so I didnt get to the motto.
We will see what it ends up called.
Funny
It is beautiful to see Hive evolving for the better. Campaigns are made and everything makes more sense.
This is the purpose of Web 3. Decentralization. The perfect way.
It is what we are building here on and around Hive.
Thankfully we have a lot of talented people dedicated to this cause.
It is beautiful to know that. Let's keep Hiving and spreading the word. Thanks for the response.
Sounds like a big step forward for creators on Hive, can't wait to see the possibilities when the SPK testnet goes live. Sounds like a great way for us to further incorporate cryptoradio.fm with Hive also. The potential of Hive grows day by day! Looking forward to a web3 future!
The potential with that infrastructure is truly amazing. It will be fun to see what people do with the technology.
Having the structure and a model to build professional brands on web3 will be a big step forward and something very useful to creators. Looking forward to the progress been made with the Hive Broadcasting Network.
Yeah. When I heard it framed in this manner, I got very excited.
Decentralized Broadcasting is the next evolution of video on the Hive platform and if we can bring and get established people from here adopt this kind of streaming, the entire platform might add another use case for it. Independent media, news and other forms of video content might capture the attention of important names in the industry and expand our adoption.
We can really step things up in this area. Broadcasting is already moving in that direction. The "independent" media is essentially operating in that manner.
Now we have to take things into the Web 3.0 realm.
decentralized cloud will be awesome. im wondering if there are plans for compute also. being ablen to pay for a VM with broca would be nice.
I am not sure how that will work. We are also dealing with a couple different projects so I am not sure how they will be connected (if at all).
I see Hive as one of the few decentralized web3 networks that can replace some of the web2 options. The potential market for users given the fast, free transactions open it up to a lot of people and I don't see why people won't come here in the future if it's attractive enough.
It is building out some of the nice pieces. This is where we are excelling. While the users are not there, the applications are and many are improving.
