Sometimes things just align.
With technology, there are many variables that go into success. Having the right technology yet at the wrong time can result in failure. Virtual Reality appears to have hit this situation on a few occasions. The difficulty going from concept to full blown production is difficult. Scaling, whether it is technology or production, is often a problem.
For the last year, we have seen Hive emerge as a fork of Steem. At that time, few knew the direction things were going other than the fact that we were getting away from the Justin Sun attack. In hindsight, his moves were the best thing that every happened to the community.
While the first 11 months were wrought with difficulties, the advancement made was nothing short of stunning. As posted by @hiveio, one of the goals, from a technical standpoint, was to scale the blockchain. Through the work of developers such as @blocktrades and @howo, this was accomplished. To what degree is still a mystery to most of us. The only insight we have is Blocktrades commenting that we are now 10x of the max capacity before the optimization took place. Since we really don't know what that was, it is hard to get a firm hold on it. What we do know is the blockchain never came close to that before the upgrades.
Along the way, something else happened that was outside of Hive yet will really affect things. The social media companies went full on censorship. The 2020 United States election saw actions taken that most of us would have thought unheard of a year ago. Nevertheless, many were awakened to the fact that nobody, including the President (now former) President of the United States, was except. If Big Tech wanted to zap your account, it could and would.
In the U.S., where freedom of speech is supposedly valued, a major debate was set off. Certainly, the Constitution does not apply to these entities since it is targeted Congress. However, many are starting to wonder whether having this much power in a basically unregulated industry is healthy. Ironic that these questions are now coming from the supposed anti-government right.
Either way, the debate will not be settled. This would be something that could rage on for decades.
What can settle the discussion is technology. Here we see where Hive could potentially step into the limelight. Right now there is a solid community of both users and developers. While our numbers might not be the largest online, we are dedicated, passionate, and are being called to something bigger than just having a successful app. If you will, a mission is forming.
Hive has the opportunity to provide freedom. As Justin Sun found out, being centralized means the United States Government can find you. If there is a mailing address of an entity, that means there is an entity. With Hive, this does not exist. Since the ninjaminen stake was put in the DAO, Hive instantly become a blockchain different from most of the rest.
There are no leaders; no foundation or company to go after. Everything is based upon stake with no founders share eating up most of the outstanding balance. Even Blocktrades, one of the largest holders, is under 5%. This is very powerful in this era where centralized entities are apt to be attacked.
Source
Hive was basically built as a social media platform. The focus, initially, was on blogging yet it has moved away from that. With the layer 2 solutions being developed, we are seeing more social media features arriving. @3speak allows for the uploading of videos, soon to a decentralized video storage network. @leofinance is close to releasing an application that they are terming "twitter on the blockchain". In other words, we are going to have the ability to attract users who are concerned about being censored or displaced.
On Hive, an account cannot be closed. This about that for a second. How powerful is that? An account cannot be closed. That does not exist on Twitter, Facebook, or Google. At the same time, there are no violation of the terms of service on the blockchain since there are none.
This is something that is unheard of today. As the last year showed, no matter how long one is on a platform, if that company decides to zap the account, all history is gone.
With Hive, this is not the case. Once an account is established it is there plus all activity is on the blockchain.
Here we could be seeing a situation where the solution is showing up just as it is needed. People who question the established narrative, at least in the United States, are being targeted. This list seems to be expanding on a monthly basis. There is a propaganda war taking place. Control is at stake and that is why the forces are so powerful.
Yet here we sit with Hive. This is a blockchain that has a number of front ends. The blockchain cannot be shut down. It is running 24/7, open to anyone to post whatever is desired. The only requirement is one needs to have a Hive account and some Resource Credits to operate. After that, it is freedom.
Personally, it looks like Hive's timing is impeccable. The scaling work on the blockchain should allow for a great deal more activity if we are able to tap into the displaced users across the social media spectrum. At the same time, the fact that Hive is a lot more decentralized than a year ago is of great help. With powerful forces looking to maintain control, it is best to have as many weaknesses eliminated as possible.
Finally, we now know that if Hive is attacked to such a degree that it is in jeopardy of collapse, the community will simply use the most powerful weapon in open source: the fork. The community showed that if it is forced to move, it can and will do it.
Sometimes the stars just align. With all that is taking place, we could potentially see a massive explosion in activity relating to the Hive blockchain. A few more pieces drop into place from the development standpoint and we could see a much different outlook on here.
Things are moving quickly and Hive could simply be in the right place at the right time.
We will see where things stand heading into Summer.

Because this is such an awesome post, here is a BBH Tip for you. . Keep up the fantastic work
Hive is in the right place at the right time. The fork was the best thing that could happen to us. We have shown the world what a good community is capable of. We had more development in the past 11 months that in 3 years during Steem. Look at the old chain and the other platforms that forked from Hive. You'll see the difference.
This is the right way.

Justin Sun was the best thing that ever happened to the community. If it werent for him, we still would be messing about with Steemit Inc. Now, we are a more robust chain, more advanced technically, and a better distribution.
All wins in my opinion.

@taskmaster4450, nice post! Thank you for sharing your thought on the recent progress of HIVE and what the current stance is.
I do think that HIVE is the best decentralized blockchain-based ecosystem in the crypto world. I also keep an eye on another ecosystem, and, to be honest, all of them are incomparable to HIVE. HIVE is the best!
However, the demand for decentralized social media is still very low. That's why HIVE has remained undervalued. Probably, in the next few years, things will get better for HIVE.

I’m also a bit disappointed that the demand for decentralised social media didn’t rocket. After all those ban waves, people should have just moved away en masse !
May I ask which other platform you’re keeping an eye on ?
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The issue could also be the ignorance of people and whether they understand the POWER and meaning of the word -
D E C E N T R A L I Z E D
I guess we can’t count on mainstream media to teach people the benefits of it :)

I disagree with this. I think the recent actions of Twitter and Facebook have elevated it. The problem is that we still do not have the applications to satisfy the need. This is going to change with the release of projectblank in a few weeks.
After that, we will see how quickly things move. I believe they are going to take off almost immediately.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
also @cryptospa you need to take into account 2 more things. 1) the majority of people are unaware of Hive's existence not because they don't care but because it's hard to find it, thus marketing is needed as well. 2) There is always the fear of the unknown.
I will you an example. It took me over 50-70 articles of "social media, find ways to earn money online, blogging platforms" to find one article for Hive (Steemit back then). It also took me 2-3 months to join out of fear that this maybe be a scam.
The same applies to many people even now!!

In the end, people will be using Hive and not know it nor care. We will see this in a few weeks. They will be on Projectblank, which is on Hive and they wont know. They will log in using twitter or facebook and start operating. Only over time might they start to learn about what else is offered and even then they might just learn apps names like Leofinance.

that's so true

New slogan, " Hive: it's not a scam "
the HF was an unexpected event that allowed to give HIVE a new identity, superior to what it was and is currently STEEM.
There is no such project as HIVE 😎

It allowed some of the visionaries on here to operate without the interference of Steemit Inc and Ned. This opened the door to get some things done.
It was tough going through things but we are making a lot of progress. Notice the node issues are gone too.

If the infrastructure is ready and the time is right communication and onboarding are the next steps. How do you attract more people to Hive?
It was actually a coincidence that I found out about Hive a couple of months ago and it was quite difficult to get started.
The Leofinance Twitter onboarding surely helps, but then there is still the visibility on other platforms.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
You dont attract them to hive for the exact reason you state: it is difficult to understand and get started.
We will attract them to projectblank. That is the entry point. For many, it will end with that single application, for others, they will brank out over time to other things offered here.
Ultimately, the more Leofinance builds, the more they have to offer.

This is exactly why I'm so excited about Project Blank. I want their first experience to be on something simple and familiar to other platforms they've been on (easy onboarding) and I expect the retention to be be better than Hive thanks to the nature of short tweets and microblogs. If they choose to go down the Hive rabbit hole, then that's great, but their first experience should be effortless and not feel like homework.

Everything is about timing and you are right things do look good. I was thinking about this last week as development takes time and with what we have coming we are ahead of anyone trying to develop their offerings. This is like a perfect storm with everything coming together at the right time.

It's good to see expansion of Hive into other areas instead of an article marketing site. It's projects like these that are going to greatly expand the ecosystem and bring more awareness to hive itself.

I would personally like to see a proper crypto Patreon alternative. (One that not only supports HIVE, HBD, and various Hive Engine Tokens, but would allow access codes so that someone paying with another cryptocurrency, or even cash, can still receive rewards for their support.) Also, pay-what-you-want on a slider, with a minimum amount to gain access to see posts.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
this is actually a problem as well.. Is there a way to remove it from a front end at least? I am sure that many will not join for the very reason that it's attractive to others: that what is written on the chain stays on the chain. The same goes with images; as far as I know they are stored somewhere centrally and there isn't a way to remove images I believe. We need to address this if we want to become more attractive to the masses. But great post!
Accounts can be muted from front-ends. This means if you are on that specific front-end, the posts can't be seen. However you may be able to see the post from a different front-end. For example, if you were muted from LeoFinance, you would not show in when using the LeoFinance site but you would show up in PeakD.
This means you need to be banned from all front-ends to be completely hidden. However that user could just decide to create their own front-end but their posts would only be seen there.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
thanks for explaining, but what I was getting at is what happens if the user doesn't want his or her posts visible anymore? Say you posted an embarrassing picture or a blog that you want to delete... what do we do with these issues?
Everything on the blockchain is public so it will always exist so long as the blockchain is alive. The best you can do is edit the post/blog so others see something different on the front-ends.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
exactly... and that is going to be a problem for many
The block chain is public so it is looking to keep everything in the form it was posted. It is part of the way the system decentralizes blogging. The text is directly added to the blockchain so there will always be a history of the actions.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Pictures arent on the blockchain only text.
So an image is not eternal. Right now, pictures on Hive are on AWS.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
okay, thanks
We are definitely in the right place at the right time with all the legacy social media censoring stuff left right and center, I mean you can't even say shit on youtube in the first 30 seconds without being demonetized and your video shadow banned. I'm currently studying how other platforms work so I can come up with a strategy to promote Leo and Hive and get the to trend there easier
The people on Facebook know what they want. Some even know the solution, just not that it's already created. I certainly don't make a habit of it, but I am finding myself giving people links, explaining cryptocurrency, and helping people get started a lot more the last few months. Slowly but surely, they're going to make their way over.

I'm sure it is. we need just a little more marketing. 🍺 😎
With the recent trends on my newly reformed social media pages ( thanks to my joing the hive Blockchain) I'd say it's only a matter of time , and I daresay , hive is at the right place ...the passionate hive fellas on twitter would have it no way else !
Hive is being promoted vigorously, only a matter of time..
We'll see..

I am looking forward of Leofinance's Twitter on the blockchain. For sure, that will bring more people both on Hive and Leofinance.

It's wonderful to be in the right place when your time has come. I see decentralized social media as the new flavor of the year, as you say. Hive has been ready and now our time has arrived.
Also tokenized social media which is also free from censorship is just revolutionary. I know people who live on their social media platforms - the old legacy centralized and censored ones, but despite me telling them about Hive, they can't let go the old and take up Hive...yet. The technological leap is still required for them I presume. They need to know about and trust bitcoin and crypto, and they need to know how to use exchanges, all of which is new to the majority. That is the learning curve. To us it seems obvious, so I don't know what's holding the rest back from learning the details. Now is the time for Hive to shine still brighter than ever before.

I've been surreptitiously flogging Hive cross posting on Intstagram an hoping to raise some awareness with tags like hivefixesthis, earncrypto and of course a hive link to my full blog so the viewer could see not only my blog but the upvoted value.

There exists a Canadian HIVE blockchain and our forked from STEEM HIVE getting confused on Twitter.
Any ideas on how to combat this?
