Web 3.0 Information Crucial: Do Not Let Them Rewrite The Internet

in LeoFinance8 hours ago

Many are aware of the forces that exist which try to control the narrative. In present day, much of this comes from the media, politicians, and the array of people who utilitze psychological and marketing tactics.

It is said that victors get to write history.

The passing of information from generation-to-generation is how history is formed. For much of humanity's existence, it was done orally. This was complimented by written records, something that was rare in the early days since illiteracy was high.

Once the printing press came out, this multiplied the amount of written material available. Information could be duplicated at a rate never seen before.

Over the last century, we saw the emergence of computer technology. This was first mechanical, then electric, and, finally, digital.

Today, most of the information we receive is digital. The Internet is over 30 years old, with billions of websites build. What is contained on these pages is our collective history.

Unfortunately, as we often witness, there are those who are interested in rewriting it. We know there are powerful people who use tactics designed to keep people "in the dark".

We could be comes to another crossroads. Of course, if it fortunate that with these situations, opportunity exists.

Web 3.0 Information Crucial: Do Not Let Them Rewrite The Internet

The attempted scrubbing of the Internet is underway.

It is no secret that Big Tech controls most of this medium. There are a couple dozen companies that run the show. For this reason, we are mostly under their control. Escaping this is difficult.

One service that operated outside these entities is The Internet Archive (archive.org). This dates back 30 years and serviced as an entity which captured much of the information posted online.

What happens if this goes away? Think about that for a second. Consider this point:

We have to contemplate there are people out there who want to rewrite history to meet their own ends. It is shown each time somone in power is caught in a career threatening situation. Scrapping the Internet can be done, especially with the help of the media. Have you ever noticed how certain stories disappear from news websites?

Internet Archive can under attack in October of 2024. This was a DDoS attack that took down the site. After that, they had to stop the uploading of information. In other words, for the first time, real world gathering of Internet information ceased.

There are other sites out there which are capturing some wesbites. Archive Today is another one, although it is relatively new.

The problem is centralization. Internet Archive lacks resiliency. The entire library of data is centralized. In other words, if can vanish in a second. Decades of humanity can just vanish.

We need another way.

Web 3.0 Is The Solution

Decentralization is crucial.

We are accustomed to hierarchical stuctures. This is the common model that much of society follows. The problem with this is that it lacks resiliency.

It is evident with governments. While tyrannical leaders last for a while, there comes a time when the situation topples over.

A horizontal structuring of things implements resiliency. Points of vulnerability are reduced. When this occurs, the ability to control diminishes.

Data got a major boost with the introduction of blockchain. We suddenly had the distribtuion of data along with a decentralized consensus mechanism. This opened up a host of possibilities.

A permissionless blockchain is a horizontal structure. The data written is hosted on a number of unrelated servers. This is vastly different from the likes of Google or Meta, which have all the data on their servers.

It is not data that belongs to humanity. Again, if they shut down the servers, all that information is gone.

Blockchain has multiple versions of the same information that anyone can access. This means that anyone can build a UI to access it. This is a massive shift from the client-server architecture that rulled the Internet from the start.

Web 3.0 can be the preservation of history. Not only can older information be captured, real time information can be captured, "writing history as it occurs".

Blockchain is still viewed as cryptocurrency. Few care about data, information, and the protecting of what is posted online. Each day, billions flock to centralized social media, providing terrabytes of data which is controlled by a few companies.

Even something like Wikipedia, wihch many volunteer their time adding to, can be removed instantly. How many decades were spent building that?

It is a battle that everyone needs to consider. Remember, the victors are the ones who get to write (rewrite) history.

Data would no doubt be the new oil. We are just still sitting on it while searching for crumbs and crypto. When data becomes decentralized and starts becoming a hub for 8billion super computers in every home then we can say that we have won the fight.

Web3 is key!

Hierarchy is part of human nature, leading to the rise and fall of nation and business empires. All these empires have denied that the end will come for them. I like the idea of a horizontal structure and hope there is widespread access.

Powerful analysis of an impending problem and yes Web 3.0 is the solution.
