They are saying that because the pension funds, both public and private, are under funded. Hence we cannot afford to have people retiring early.
If they can, they will keep people working until their late 70s.

Tho people still are retiring early.. productivity and oppurtunites increased much more in this digital era..
They can't keep anyone working till their 40-50s imo.
I guess it depends upon where you are in the world and how things are breaking down.
In the US, the first half of the Baby Boomers did okay. The second half really lagged with many of them forced to work until later. This recent bout with price increases actually forced many of them back to work.
