They arent going to allow individual posting. They have their authors already picked out.
The rest of us get to comment on the posts.

Yea but for some reason, I can see it being a closed group kind of thing. Since 8 people literally decide exactly which topics they care about and I think most of the whales there are probably going to be part of a small group. It seems complicated if they pick the 8 people incorrectly.

Yes it is a closed group for all but comments. Like the post said, a way to ensure the quality of content they want and to be able to give authors of that stuff a place.
I am sure they will go for some "big" names in that field. We might not know them but they could be known. The fact they have 300K following is a good starting point.
