50 Cent estimates he's spent a whopping $24 million on legal fees throughout his career: 'Just on lawyers'

The litigious rapper claims he sometimes files lawsuits for "recreational purposes."

50 Cent has never been one to back away from a fight - especially a legal one.

In a recent interview with Gillie Da King and Wallo 267 on their Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the "Candy Shop" rapper went deep on the shocking bill his legal fees have run up over the years. "I’ve spent $24 million in my career, so far," he said. “Just on lawyers. I’ve spent $24 million in my career on legal fees.” The rapper jokingly added, "I can't wait 'til I get rich."

Born Curtis Jackson in Queens, the rapper commonly known as 50 Cent has become one of the most successful multi-hyphenates in music. Since the release of his breakthrough 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin', Jackson has founded a record label, a film and television production company, executive produced the Starz series Power and its spinoffs, starred in films like Home of the Brave and Southpaw, and dipped his toes into product merchandising and partnerships from footwear to dietary supplements and fragrances.

Twenty years on from his debut, the rapper is still grossing enormous figures from touring alone, but the myriad lawsuits he finds himself caught up in do add up. Jackson said he spends "a million dollars a year, easily" on legal fees. He told the hosts he has his legal counsel issue lawsuits "for recreational purposes" whenever people "agitate me. I'll send the f---ing lawyers," he said.

"I have a general counsel. I don’t have a manager,” he continued. “Why do I need you to manage me for? I’ve done every deal a 100 f---ing times that I would be doing for me as a music artist," Jackson said, elaborating on his independent approach to financial management. "Why do I need you to do that for? They all want to work at a percentage and you want a percentage of me? You didn’t build this — I built it.”
