It's one thing if the knowledge was new-- but it wasn't. There are rumors that the reason this was done was to divert public attention away from the "misdeeds" and "scandals" of the "regime."
Media is certainly a propaganda arm for those running the show.
Never a dull moment... or anything you can actually believe!
I will 'assume' there could have been considerable discussion required before releasing information gained from a supposed 'top secret' Navy program. Intel tends to move slowly through such channels. But the narrative was skewed.
Well skewed from our perspective but right on message for what they wanted.
