Earlier, old refrigerators buzzed loudly and irritated the ear, technology has advanced, but, over time, modern refrigerators also begin to buzz, and louder than their ancestors :) ! BEER

Well I imagine, unless the ancestors are ghosts, they are pretty quiet at this point.

But the cold from the ancestors was always there for sure, ghostly, so much so that it crawled out :) !BEER

The Nevera R all-new electric hypercar can hit a top speed of 217 mph, and it only starts at $2.5 million

Rimac revealed Friday during The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering at Monterey Car Week the Nevera R, an all-electric hypercar that’s meant to push the performance bounds of its predecessor.

Rimac, the Croatian EV upstart that ascended from a garage to become a supercar and technology powerhouse merged with Bugatti, has upgraded its Nevera hypercar. And along the way, Rimac managed to squeeze more power into it.

A16z offers social media tips after its founder’s ‘attack’ tweet goes viral

On Friday, the venture firm Andreessen Horowitz tweeted out a link to its guide on how to “build your social media presence” which features advice for founders.

On Friday, the venture firm Andreessen Horowitz tweeted out a link to its guide on how to “build your social media presence,” which features advice for founders on things like “how to find your people” and “how often to post.”

#technology #socialmedia #a16z

The timing of the tweet was ironic given the social media frenzy on Friday after founder Ben Horowitz posted on X. He was upset over an article in The San Francisco Standard about his family’s political donations and accused his rival, VC Michael Moritz — who owns The Standard — of orchestrating the story. (The Standard’s executive editor, Jon Steinberg, said he assigned the article and that Moritz had nothing to do with it.)

A16z’s Marc Andreessen has also had a storied, and sometimes combative, relationship with social media. A Meta board member, he quit Twitter in 2016 because it had grown too toxic for him but returned and quickly rebuilt a huge following. Earlier this year, he and VC Vinod Khosla fought about AI on the X platform (formerly Twitter), in which Andreessen Horowitz is an investor.

MIT this week showcased tiny batteries designed specifically for the purpose of powering these systems to execute tasks as varied as targeting drug delivery inside the human body to checking pipelines for gas leaks. The power source measures 0.1 millimeter long by 0.002 millimeter thick — roughly as thick as a strand of hair.

Despite the barely visible size, the researchers say the batteries can generate up to 1 volt, which can be used to power a sensor, circuit or even a moving actuator.

OpenAI shuts down election influence operation that used ChatGPT

OpenAI has banned a cluster of ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian influence operation that was generating content about the U.S. presidential election

OpenAI has banned a cluster of ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian influence operation that was generating content about the U.S. presidential election, according to a blog post on Friday. The company says the operation created AI-generated articles and social media posts, though it doesn’t seem that it reached much of an audience.

This is not the first time OpenAI has banned accounts linked to state-affiliated actors using ChatGPT maliciously. In May the company disrupted five campaigns using ChatGPT to manipulate public opinion.

#newsonleo #politics #openai #iran

These episodes are reminiscent of state actors using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to attempt to influence previous election cycles. Now similar groups (or perhaps the same ones) are using generative AI to flood social channels with misinformation. Similar to social media companies, OpenAI seems to be adopting a whack-a-mole approach, banning accounts associated with these efforts as they come up.

OpenAI says its investigation of this cluster of accounts benefited from a Microsoft Threat Intelligence report published last week, which identified the group (which it calls Storm-2035) as part of a broader campaign to influence U.S. elections operating since 2020.

Gogoro delays India plans due to policy uncertainty, launches bike-taxi pilot with Rapido

Gogoro has deferred its India plans over delay in government incentives, but the Taiwanese company has partnered with Rapido for a bike-taxi pilot.

Taiwanese electric two-wheeler maker Gogoro has deferred its highly ambitious plans for India, as New Delhi has not yet launched an anticipated scheme for battery swapping, a company executive said. In the meantime, the company has started a bike-taxi pilot with aggregator Rapido to test its vehicles before their commercial release.

Gogoro is “forced to wait for the finalization of incentive schemes” from the Indian government before ramping its vehicle sales and battery pack production in the country, co-founder and CEO Horace Luke said during the company’s Q2 earnings call on Thursday.

“We had forecasted revenue from India for 2024, but due to the delay in implementation in subsidies to include battery swapping vehicles, most of it is now projected for 2025,” the executive told investors.

Apple reportedly has ‘several hundred’ working on a robot arm with attached iPad

Apple is reportedly shifting into the world of home robots after the wheels came off its electric car. According to a new report from Bloomberg

Apple is reportedly shifting into the world of home robots after the wheels came off its electric car. According to a new report from Bloomberg, a team of several hundred is working on its potential first product: a robotic arm with an “iPad-like” display attached. The home product would take a page out of Amazon’s dynamic Echo Show 10 and one of Meta’s bygone Portal devices.

#apple #newsonleo #technology #iphone

The product has reportedly been in the works for around two years, though the team has ramped up efforts far more recently. Apple isn’t exactly taking the easy road. As difficult as producing an electric self-driving car would’ve been, the world of home robots is littered with failed projects, with the sole exception of iRobot’s Roomba and subsequent robot vacuums.

Being able to embed #ai is going to be huge. Need to bridge it from the computer into the real world.

Here is where a company like #tesla has a huge advantage. It can put its robots to work in its own factories.

Judge temporarily blocks sports streaming service Venu, siding with Fubo on antitrust concerns

A judge temporarily halted sports streaming service Venu, a joint venture between Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox, from launching.

A U.S. judge temporarily blocked media companies Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox from launching their sports streaming service, Venu, according to court filings.

The temporary injunction, granted in response to a lawsuit brought by Fubo TV, comes just weeks ahead of the start of the National Football League season. The companies had planned to launch their service by that date.

#newsonleo #technology #streaming #fubo #venu

Fubo, an internet TV bundle akin to the traditional pay TV package, alleged in its lawsuit that Venu was anticompetitive and would upend its business. Fubo's stock gained 16% Friday on the news of the injunction.

"Today's ruling is a victory not only for Fubo but also for consumers. This decision will help ensure that consumers have access to a more competitive marketplace with multiple sports streaming options," said Fubo CEO David Gandler in a press release after the court decision.

A hellish new AI threat: 'Undressing' sites targeted by SF authorities

#newsonleo #porn #ai #technology

While the ethics of AI-generated porn are still under debate, using the technology to create nonconsensual sexual imagery of people is, I think we can all agree, reprehensible. One such method is “undressing” sites, which take a normal, clothed photo of a person and generate a fake nude version from it. As you might imagine, the potential for abuse here is pretty much unlimited.

San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu is filing suit to take down 16 of the most popular of these sites, he announced in a press conference and an interview with The New York Times. It may not banish this use of the tech altogether, but it may help make its application a lot riskier for the outfits involved in its creation.

African e-commerce company Jumia completes sale of secondary shares at $99.6M

Jumia completed the at-the-market transaction offering of 20,227,736 ADSs, selling the shares at an average price of $4.92 per ADS.

Almost two weeks ago, TechCrunch reported that African e-commerce giant Jumia was planning to sell 20 million American depositary shares (ADSs) and raise more than $100 million, given its share price of around $5.70 at the time.

The e-tailer has now completed the at-the-market transaction offering of 20,227,736 ADSs. Jumia sold the shares at an average price of $4.92 per ADS, generating aggregate gross proceeds before commissions and offering expenses of $99.6 million. TechCrunch reported that Jumia would likely sell at that price.

#newsonleo #ecommerce #technology #jumia

Jumia CEO Francis Dufay said in a statement that the capital will “further strengthen our balance sheet and help us accelerate our growth trajectory as we progress along our path to profitability.”

Jumia’s cash position currently stands at $92.8 million (comprising $45.1 million in cash and cash equivalents and $47.7 million in term deposits and other financial assets) from its Q2 2024, its most recent financial report. That’s compared to the platform’s liquidity position of $120.6 million in Q4 2023 and $101.5 million in Q1 2024.

A new consumer privacy battle is underway as tech gadgets capture our brain waves

As consumer technology capturing brain data proliferates under the radar of medical device regulation, Colorado has changed its privacy act to include biology.

The question "What is a thought?" is no longer strictly a philosophical one. Like anything else measurable, our thoughts are subject to increasingly technical answers, with data captured by tracking brainwaves. That breakthrough also means the data is commodifiable, and captured brain data is already being bought and sold by companies in the wearable consumer technologies space, with few protections in place for users.

#newsonleo #technology #brainwaves

In response, Colorado recently passed a first-in-the-nation privacy act aimed at protecting these rights. The act falls under the existing "Colorado Consumer Protection Act," which aims to protect "the privacy of individuals' personal data by establishing certain requirements for entities that process personal data [and] includes additional protections for sensitive data."

The key language in the Colorado act is the expansion of the term "sensitive data" to include "biological data" — inclusive of numerous biological, genetic, biochemical, physiological, and neural properties.

Progress spacecraft arrives with supplies at the International Space Station

A Roscosmos cargo spacecraft arrived at the International Space Station this Saturday (17) to deliver food, fuel and other supplies to the crew on board. The crew includes two NASA astronauts who are on station due to safety concerns related to the Boeing Starliner capsule.

The Progress 89 unmanned spacecraft docked at the rear of the Russian Zvezda Service module. It was launched on Wednesday (14) on a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, in Kazakhstan.

With the delivery of approximately three tons of supplies, including food, fuel and miscellaneous equipment, Progress 89 ensured that the crew has everything they need for the coming months.

Finally some good news about the help that the two astronauts needed. I was surprised by the way NASA was handling this situation.

How is AI transforming SAP application development?

Apparently, the topic of Artificial Intelligence will continue to be in evidence for many years among IT and business topics. The speed with which this technology has expanded into new applications and has been incorporated into corporate solutions does not allow us to blink at the risk of missing something new.

This reality is even more emphatic in giants in the technology sector, who are in a race to innovate and develop integrations to enrich products and services. This is what we see happening with SAP solutions, in which AI technology – especially generative technology – has taken on a major role, alongside cloud applications.

China launches its own version of Starlink to challenge US space dominance

In an effort to challenge the space dominance of the United States and SpaceX's Starlink, China has launched a constellation of low-orbit satellites with surveillance capabilities.

According to Chinese state media, the first batch of 18 satellites from the “Qianfan” constellation was launched into orbit on August 6 by the state-owned company Shanghai Yuxin Satellite Technology.

The complete project foresees a future network of 14,000 satellites, offering various services, including direct connectivity to devices. Half of these satellites are expected to be launched by the end of next year and the other half by the end of 2027.

I thought China was late on these plans as Starlink is dominating that market. We will see competition in this sector soon with the entry of China.

X, ex-Twitter, ends his activity in Brazil and blames Alexandre de Moraes

X's Global Government Affairs Account announced this Saturday (17/8) that X, formerly Twitter, has closed its operations in Brazil, with immediate effect. In the network's official profile, responsibility for the closure is attributed to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The justification for closing activities was “fear of threats”. Furthermore, the account says: “The responsibility lies exclusively with Alexandre de Moraes”.

Despite the closure of activities in Brazilian territory, X will continue to be available to the population.
