Dr. Ruth Westheimer, America’s most famous sex therapist, dead at 96

Ruth Westheimer, the superstar sex therapist known to millions as “Dr. Ruth”, has died aged 96.

Westheimer died Friday at her home in Manhattan, her publicist Pierre Lehu confirmed. No cause of death was announced.

The sex therapist, who was born in Germany in 1928, survived the Holocaust before relocating to the United States.

She came to public prominence in 1980 after she began the segment “Sexually Speaking” on New York’s WYNY radio network, helping to de-stigmatize sex for generations of Americans.

She subsequently hosted TV shows and penned more than 45 books.

Just last year, she was appointed by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul as the state’s honorary ambassador to loneliness.

Sort:

I remember seeing her on TV back in the day. She was fun to listen to.

Well the topic and her did not match. She wasnt built like a porn star.

A little old lady who was 4 foot nothing talking about sex.

I actually remember her appearing in French TV show giving advice about sex.

She appeared a lot of places. Certainly made a name for herself.

Exactly! And that accent. LOL

Yeah well people with accents have sex also.

Yup! That's why I'm here a couple generations later 😆

Amazing how that works. I think there might be a new scientific theory there.

Rip to her.
