However if you are going to talk about payouts, either stick to the date or do not state it.

Or--hear me out--communicate timely. Let people know on time why things aren't going as planned. Something similar happened during zealy campaign and the next thing I heard was, "oh if you guys are going to make a fuss about things maybe we won't have another campaign". It seems the whole point about communicating and respecting people's time flew over everyone's head.
