Global fuel cell research and challenges
Global research on fuel cell technology has intensified lately. Honda is not the only automobile giant that is working on a new fuel cell system.
Recently, Toyota, another leading Japanese automaker, has also launched its third-generation fuel cell system (3rd Gen FC System), which delivers two times more durability than the prior generation.
According to Toyota, the new fuel cell can deliver 20% more cruising range and will be expanded for use in heavy-duty commercial vehicles as well.
In another effort, Japanese researchers have developed a new material that could dramatically improve fuel cell technology.
Considering that recent closures of several hydrogen pumps come as a challenge for hydrogen-powered vehicles, Honda’s latest fuel cell technology is a major development.
