Losing Wheeler was an impactful loss. The Mets couldn't take any type of big contract risk on Matz. @taskmaster4450le
Dont forget Sandy tried to re-sign him. They thought they had a deal in place with the agent and the next morning he was a Cardinal.
Turns out they dodged a bullet. Same with Bauer, another one Sandy wanted.
