Atlas humanoid robot moves closer to real-world jobs with Hyundai factory automation

The humanoid tackles part sequencing using Reinforcement Learning and Foundation Models to handle diverse pick, carry, and place tasks.

US robotics firm Boston Dynamics has showcased how its humanoid robot is now capable of picking up, carrying, and placing objects.

Demonstrated at the company’s headquarters, the Atlas 2.0 demonstrated its potential for use in automotive factories and warehouses, where it could assist in sorting parts and handling logistics.

“When something hasn’t been automated in a Hyundai facility, there’s a good reason for it. Together, we found the ideal first problem for Atlas: starting with part sequencing, we are putting Atlas to work in manufacturing facilities and opening up the future,” said Zachary Jackowski, VP & General Manager – of Atlas, in a blog post.

In April 2024, Boston Dynamics revealed the new electric Atlas humanoid, significantly stronger and boasting a broader range of motion than its previous hydraulic counterpart.
