I never knew that either other than base metal coinage, with the 2019 nominal GDP per capita of $650 USD eq. I'd say 35 Korean citizens would have to starve for every silver coin made, imho.
This Buddha would be cooler if it were made of humble 24c gold but we keep in mind that "Buddhism is not just abstinence and asceticism, it is also about the proper management of the earthy goods that we have." If only Kim Jong only practiced Buddhism Korea would a totally different place. Only 1.5% of N.Koreans are Buddist according to Wiki.

It's such a sad place, the silver would be better used feeding his people but he doesn't care about them.
Now a 24 carat Buddha, that would be awesome!
