Mark Zuckerberg has embraced free speech on Meta, abandoning fact checkers and promising an end to censoring dissenting points of view.

Zuck's 180 probably isn't a change of heart, but a sign of the winds changing. Just as his past censorship was probably a product of outside pressures more than his own desires.

Either way, remember: this only matters because platforms CAN censor!

Build censorship resistance.

Sort:

Or he wants more data. X being the "place for news" probably doesnt sit well with him.

Also, opening up topics that were banned can enhance the data from the conversations.

To me, it always comes back to data.

He wants his business to do well and succeed. Of course.

Funny enough, that's the most encouraging part, because censorship never made money on its own. It was a sign of being paid off externally.

With those platforms it just depends on which way the wind is blowing and how it can have the most positive impact on their bottom line. They don't really care one way or the other.
