The privacy community in crypto can't stop beefing with itself because disagreements between three big schools of thought:

  1. Privacy, but we should exclude criminals (Ameen/privacy pools/Railgun)

  2. Privacy for everyone, but with transparency tools, and verbally telling criminals to go away (Zcash, Firo, etc.)

  3. Privacy for everyone, no good transparency/compliance tools, actively market to criminals (Monero)

These fall along cultural/political lines: more left-leaning/pro government people like # 1, pro-liberty but who comply with the law like # 2, pro-liberty who don't care to comply (and may not like certain ethnic minorities) like # 3. Broad strokes here, not everyone!

All approaches are necessary and hugely beneficial, though for technical reasons I prefer 2-3 (permissionless, uncensorable money).

But people don't fight over that, they fight over culture.

I am a number 3 category guy, because the only people that considers me a criminal for trying to have financial privacy are the criminals making the laws that says I am a criminal for not doing what they tell me. So really, yeah, I'll market it to 'criminals', lol, because EVERYONE deserves privacy, even those 'breaking the laws'.

Agree, I'm in the 2-3 because it's the permissionless one.

Just as long as we agree who the REAL criminals are, lol.

If we agree that taxation is theft, that should be easy!

I am also for 2 or 3, but I do not want actively market to criminals. So probably 2 is better option.

Yes absolutely, same.
