I encountered an incident that would alter my entire perspective on any conventional social media two days ago. My account on WhatsApp was banned without any prior notice to me. No communication. No alerts. It was just done.
All these years I have been working on increasing my network there. My family group chats, business contacts, international friends, memorable moments and thousands of chats, all have vanished literally out of nowhere. Worst? I hadn’t even broken a single rule. No abuse of these spam laws. No content that’s inappropriate. Nothing.
You know how it feels when some important thing is taken away from you without any reason? That's what I felt when looking at the “this number cannot use WhatsApp anymore” message on the screen.
And, I am not the only one. Everyday, thousands of users of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp come across the same issue. You could be on top of your game one second and next minute, the whole world is closed off to you.
Reflect for a moment. Just how much of your existence resides in these applications?
