Reddit was a community that we took for granted, like we take our families for granted. It was a community close to my heart since i grew up using it. Alot of the communities grew along with me, new members everyday, becoming a part of our discussions everyday. New members, new subscribers each day growing apart of it. needless to say the app was because of us, the member, the users, the contributors. Even fun in recent times, we had certain communities that started rewarding us for our contributions, for our posts and comments, largely due to being a part of the community contributing to the people's lives that we are a part of the community. These rewards had now become a large part of us too, watching our rewards grow, coins accumulating was just a monthly ritual that we enjoyed to the core. Even though most of the users did not take monetary advantage from the rewards since we kept stacking, yet we kept contributing to the communities.
All of this came to an end just less than 24 hours ago. We were left hanging, dwindling by a thread. Our rewards became useless, a relic of the past, ancient daggers, dinosaurs, grounded to zero in just an hour at -90%. Leaving no cue to leave now that it is over, the lucky ones were lucky enough and quick enough to transfer their tokens to Exchanges and sell them in exchange for ETH while it was worth something. ETH being the most famous coin with the largest market cap other than the king bitcoin itself. Others like me did not care enough to keep this going on anymore and just wanted to get rid of their bags just like me only because we felt used and abused by the reddit. All in the name of going public and raising money, corporate greed. First they grow because of the community rewarding them a crypto currency called moons, and then out of no where, pull the rug underneath us. This was a similar move to what FTX did, or LUNA/ Celsius. As another redditor puts it, we have yet again been FTX’d. Reddit is now the Sam Bankman Fried for all these users.
I have personally been trying to reach out the acquaintances who were also large bag holders at Reddit but they haven’t responded at all. And until yesterday they were the most active users contributing and taking part in all discussions. I wish for their safety.
I was deeply touched by listening to the personal stories posted by everyone on the communities. One user had just posted how his bag of rewards worth $1000 accumulated over months and years was now worth nothing. It was supposed to be his kids’ Christmas present this year. Dreams shattered, hopes broken. For us, Reddit has now been blacklisted for anything crypto related. While we can’t leave our community behind, we certainly would want other competitors stepping in and working its way up the rankings, the accolade of success that we can all be a part of.
I have been a part of Hive for a while now, but will be more frequent now in hopes of building relationships with other contributors and members of the community.
