It is hard to hold Hive in the face of all other crypto outperforming us all the time, but at the core it is just better than everything else out there. Eventually people will figure that out.
I think that the key, emotionally, is to make sure that you are holding lots of other coins that actually do go up, like ETH or whatever. I made the mistake back in 2017 going all in with Steem. I lost millions of dollars selling my BTC for Steem at the top, hodling through 2018. And I am not even a Hive whale, not even close.. I would not have been rekt so badly had I kept my portfolio diversified.
Yep, same story here. I bought at the absolute top. I believed in Steem so much that I sold everything! 60 ETH, 6.49 BTC, and then I sold 600k ENJ coins that I had bought in the ICO after I got sick of watching it plummet over the course of a year. So many times I could have just fucking retired.
For some reason I am stuck on here, after so much losses I just can’t break the habit of coming here everyday, browsing around, getting my 10 votes in for the day, and occasionally interact. What did it cost me? At the beginning I traded around 1.8 bitcoin for like 300-400 steem back in july 2016. I even powered up my steem knowing the power down was 104 weeks.... oh well, maybe one day hive goes to $10 and I can “get my money back” but I’m not holding my breath. The constant selling of hive to act as residual income for dozens/hundreds of users has always been our Achilles heel.
When did steem/hive pump?
When bitconnect riches were cashed out by Craig and Trey and got market bought poured into Steem, and when Justin sun and @theycallmedan were racing each other buying up as much steem as they could.... other than that, the only thing holding the hive price up is @smooth’s hbdstabalizer posts that are buying up hive at a pretty awesome rate. We need more reasons for people to buy hive.
It's rough, for sure. But I am in too deep to leave now. Although I have felt like it at times. Honestly, power down time has saved me once or twice. I always stop the power down after a day or two cooling off. It is kind of like therapy clicking power down from time to time.
The goal should be that powerup reduces the risk of irrational selling due to an incentive to hold, while still allowing for fast selling based on market dynamics.
Yes, I could tell you some horror stories as well. I traded 100 BTC for BCH when BCH was like 400, and BTC was around 2-3k. A week later, BTC made its epic run to 20k while BCH actually went down in price. To top it off, I went to my mom's left my ledger and BCH got listed on coinbase, went from 400 to 4k, but I couldnt sell due to not having my hardware wallet. By the time I got back it was 800$, I said F it and held, ended up selling a year later for like 150$ a peice. Crypto can be hard sometimes. But that doesnt change much in terms of getting back on the horse. Most alts from 2017 that "died" actually came back to hit ATH in BTC. Cycles are vicious, and hindsight is 20-20, we have no idea whats in store for Hive, and hodlers could very well catch back up in BTC terms, I've seen in so many times.
I sunk 35 BTC into Steem at the top.....kept buying....hive fork comes....sold all my steem and doubled down on hive....powered it all up......still plugging along......things getting better and more solid here everyday. It's slow but, in the end we should all do well on this adventure.
Well, I guess you have me beat there buddy. Of course the only time I ever had quite so many BTC is when I solo mined a block in the beginning times. Long story short, it was not worth much and I heard on the news that cops were busting people for having bitcoin and others were using it to hire hitmen. I had a panic attack and wiped the hard drive. I didn't notice crypto again until 2016 when I though.... oh shit! What have I done?? 50BTC added to oblivion.
I sold most of my Steem for Hive and bought a little eth and btc. No regrets for me, I love Hive!
Ouch! Not to be an ass, but it gives me comfort to know that I am not alone in huge losses. All we can do is pick ourselves up and keep pushing forward. I was just talking to my friend @steve.varner the other day about this. He has had a lot of successes in life, that in my opinion are due to his persistent positive attitude and never giving up.
Also, I don't always apply this rule, but I think it is wise to wake up every day and look at everything you have as a snapshot of what you are starting the rest of your life with, and work forward from there; leaving the past behind as if it never existed. As if you were dropped into the world with your current holdings and life situation. Aaaand go.
well said and that motivates me personally to stick to this Hive thing even more - I did not use my Steem for Hive Power - however I added all into the ecosystem aka Splinterlands mainly and other games. Now I consider to at least get to Orca level here - the chain and the community are too good to not be recognized on a much bigger scale.
This surprises me, I read the first comment and I feel sorry for @llamaron I know cryptocurrencies can be tough as friend says but that doesn't change much in terms of getting back on the horse and I see you have recovered quite a bit, I continually read your response @nuthman and it is the PUN of comments, I really was open mouthed at the time you lost millions of dollars and continue to stand firm on Hive, I hope and you can be a whale on this platform someday but as you say you are not even close I don't know what to say about it, I share this with my friends who participate here and it was the same reaction: ( Sending a hug and Greetings from Venezuela!
I think losing all that money was an eye opener for me. I was taking huge risks back then wasting money and living above my means. You live and learn, I suppose.
Gracias @mariasalas19, saludos y un abrazo desde Los Angeles!
Well I won't say it's not tempting to not hold any crypto apart from hive, but then we can't begin to ignore it's use cases, it's governance functions, it's passive functions and of course enabling one to hold for futuristic prices. I mean some areas of concern makes these advantages really underated but the then this doesn't take away anything from hive. Main reason why I'm building
Ya everytime I look at other cryptos and compare it to Hive, it just makes me more bullish on Hive. I'm a ex pokerplayer/crypto trader by nature, so I dabble outside of Hive of course. But you'll rarely hear me talk about projects, and we are at the point now where anything interesting outside of Hive i simple want to bridge hive to it.
Short term because every shitcoin pumps in a bull market anyways. Right now we are in a huge altseason. First it's ETH, then large caps (already started), then mid and low caps. Hive will pump at this point, no matter what happens on the chain. We could all leave and it would pump. We are exactly following the price action of Steem in the 2017 bull market, one month in advance almost.
Long term is more is more interesting. For me it goes back to the vision blocktrades has, Hive as the ultimate layer 1 to build dapps on. I think long term a few chains with different characteristics will win. All it comes down do is engineering tradeoffs.
You need bitcoin because it is extremely secure and decentralized. But it can't do anything.
Eth is much less secure and decentralized, but allows us to decentralize finance. It's a good compromise. However, it doesn't allow us to decentralize social media or gaming.
This is where we need dPOS. Nothing else works. BSC is dPOS. But BSC is centralized. EOS is a mess, don't even need to mention that.
HIVE is the dPOS play, less secure and less decentralized, but enough scalability for web 3.
Hive is a short/long play for me as well. I wanted to secure my stake early just to be safe. I look at hive as the decentralized distribution play that all other chains will want to have. And with PoS, node count actually isn't as important as many think. Token distribution trumps node count every day of the week. You can get by relatively fine on a handful of nodes as long as the tokens are distributed well. But you can have a million nodes and be centralized if the token distribution isn't good.
At some point Hive holders will hold so much use cases/power with it, the value will become crazy.
If some of the ETH projects would be on Hive, would be amazing.
From defi to anon transfers. It would also bring so much value to hive. Because of the free transfers wrapped tokens should become here 100x more useful for daily use than on other chains.
Right on the track ;)
As you said there is always balance in the nature ;)
And I’m pretty sure also that the big companies and corporations know about Hive but they are just hiding it from the masses.
You know and I know and I assume many Hivers know that all we need is to get to the masses to adapt to the decentralized way of video, text storage.
All we need is the right catalyst and the time for the one of the front ends to hit it.
Yes... There are reasons why someone can buy hive because one can be able to change it to Eth. I have seen many people who have bought tokens such as steemit but when it crashed, they lost. They cried hard but could not so anything to revive those lost steem.
First, one need to know if hive is a decentralized system?,
How much is 1 hive in the market?,
How long will this hive stay and hope is not going to sash in the air just like steemit?
Many then said steemit was a long term platform but we saw it crashing within minutes. So, how and what guarantee do we have that hive is going to stay for so long.
I'm new here and I learning.
Ypu kept on saying.that hive made a lot of sense to you in terms of the long terms, what assurance do you have in this statement because when someone wants to buy, he or she need to confirm what is ready to be bought.
If we cannot hold hive, then do we say that we change it to other token?
What appeals to me and why I’m still here is because it’s so underdog and unpopular! Warren Buffett always says find a dollar for 90 cents and then sit on it!
I don’t see the point in selling hive I have fun here and I’ll ride this thing to zero either way it’s paid for in entertainment and the discussion I get to have here
That's the difficulty of all of this right now. People are guilty (myself included) of chasing the coins that are going to make them big ROI, rather than looking at the underlying foundation of the cryptocurrency. The dumb Doge frenzy is a great example of that. A coin like Doge being in 4th place makes this whole scene look like a load of bullshit.
I can't wait until we can get past the speculation stage of all of this so that the real value blockchains can start to shine.
Real money is falling due to the global crisis. Only cryptocurrencies are our future and source of life, even in sports this function will be integrated, what's more, there are already football, basketball and other teams that these cryptocurrencies are already integrated.
What makes HIVE so special comparing with other cryptos like BITCOIN SV wich is a growing community of entrepeneurs, who are creating all bunch of platforms and dapps like streamanity or twetch? want to read your thoughts on that
I've looked heavily into BSV. I do not believe blockchains should be used to store everything, IE videos, images, etc. I really like the stack approach. While I am intrigued by the concept of an uncapped bitcoin, I have a lot of questions when it comes to how this will scale in the future. Also, even with BSV, you need to pay per text, whereas, on Hive, you get free RCs. So, overall I just think Hive is the superior option over BSV for building apps.
I'm here for the fun. If I make money, I'm happy, if I don't, I am still happy. If you are here for the money, you may get disappointed, but, I am here for the people. Look around, some of these people are awesome!
I am new to Hive and since I discovered it I have told everyone around me about this marvel, it is a very special community that undoubtedly serves as an economic aid to many content creators that would be silenced in other media, for this and much more if I had enough money to buy Hive I would do it without thinking, it is a community that for me has its greatest wealth in its people and those who know it can be sure that we have achieved something special that we certainly want to maintain and see grow over time.
I hodl. Airdrops of other coins went all into Hive so far. What I got by the power down of the Steem Tokens went first into other coins and the gains of that go again into Hive. For example the Dogecoin spike, thanks to that I was able to squeezing 200 Hive out of Doge. It is a small amount but honest work. Hive is for me a better bank account.

Savage. So much development going on that Hive will be hard not to notice eventually.
I bought my first st**m for 5$ each. So it was also something painful :)

Real money is going down because of world crisis. Only cryptocurrencies are our future.
I don't buy other tokens, I like Hive. The people in it, the sense of community, the rush of trying to earn, the connections we make.
I honestly don't know how there isn't more people here. I buy it regularly

Hey stranger!!!! Earning my hive the old fashioned way. One day at a time. My experiment continues!!!

If we cannot hold hive, then do we say that we change it to other token?
The story of what happened during the bear market when we had to fight off a malicious network attack, says everything about why we should buy Hive.
If the base community was strong enough back then to fight the way it did, then that says everything about why Hive is here to stay.
Slowly we're seeing the community continuing to creating content, spreading our tentacles throughout the web, and establishing our network.
Hive is here to stay.
The loyalty of our community will make sure of it.

Fuck yeah!!
I have been planning to buy some amount of HIVE.
Just aped in with half of my ETH. Altseason moving down the ranks quickly, soon mid/low caps will pump a lot I think.
I’m not the only one here planning to never power down my HP.
Multiple streams of income from delegations, leasing Resource Credits, curation with second-Layer tokens. That’s the future.
A $10+ price for Hive would not at all tempt me to power down.

It is going to take some time for the lustre of quick money wears off, but I do see the time that people start to value more than the ROI.

Is the key, but when the impression to the outsiders is that hive isall about earning from creating, how will we ever get past this stage?
We are still in the everything is new and shiny phase.
unfortunately there is no easy way for me to buy large amount of HIVE or HBD without VPN. I hope Leo/CUB finance can do something about it.
agree @leofinance should open a way to buy hive on cub. It doesn't need to be a farm, can be a one way ticket with a fee :)
would be a good service.

Welcome to Hive! The great thing about Hive is I have a friend everywhere I go no matter the city!
For some time now I have been thinking of buying some Hives. Hopefully soon the price of Hive will rise like the others crypto.
Dan, what does this mean? “We’re being kept a secret for a reason.” - By who? What reason?
I will make a nice little presentation on this topic. Thanks, @theycallmedan for the nice pointers.
