A market is being formed around the Agentic Internet

If you are into technology, you most likely have heard of the Agentic Internet. It's a subject that authors such as Taskmaster have been talking for a while here on Hive and even mainstream media has been giving it ample coverage lately.

In a nutshell, that means in the future, a large portion of what we know as "the internet" will be reshaped for a new reality.

Nowadays, most of the traffic on the internet is done by humans. Therefore, the applications that form the browsable part of the internet are designed with humans in mind.

As the internet paradigm shifts to Agents, so will the applications. UX will still be a thing but the "U", that is, the users, will be different.

Agents have different requirements than humans, so it's expected that businesses will start to develop specific products targeting agents rather than human users.

In fact, some companies are already doing that. Let's check out one example.

Crossmint Agentic Wallets Overview

A little disclaimer before I talk about Crossmint: I have no involvement with the product and have never tried it, so don't take it as a promotion or validation of what they advertise. I just stumbled upon them while reading about agentic wallets and it seemed like an interesting topic to write about.

Crossmint is a platform that seeks to help integrate web2 to web3. It offers many different products related to blockchain and their main selling point seems to be delivering web3 capabilities with a web2 experience, which means removing all the major obstacles that web2 users usually find too complicated such as gas fees, wallet addresses and etc.

The future of AI is intertwined with crypto, which will be the form of currency agents will use to interact with the network and with each other. I'll not expand on that right now, but I'm working on a post to discuss specifically that.

With that in mind, Crossmint recently announced their Agent Wallets, which are designed to allow AI Agents to interact autonomously onchain while maintaining regulatory compliance.

To do that, Crossmint designed a two-key model: one for the agent and one for the owner.

They claim their wallets are very easy to use and one can start to deploy them with a few lines of code (3, to be exact); they also say the wallets are chain-agnostic as they support Solana, Polygon, Sui and more than 20 other EVMs.

Their target audience for this product consists mainly of three type of clients:

  • Individual developers running their own agents
  • Infrastructure providers hosting agents for multiple owners
  • Fully independent agents that own and manager their resources

Although they support all the use cases above, they do mention they designed their agent wallets with the second type in mind.

That's only one example of how the market is changing to accommodate AI Agents and the agentic internet. I'm sure there are many other examples already, and even more will come.

Final thoughts

The world is changing; the internet is changing, and it is no surprise that the markets are also evolving.

As AI Agents take a more prominent role on the web, businesses will start to develop products targeted at them. Crossmint is one of the companies that got in early but, with time, more will come.

That sparks up the question: What will happen to Software as a Service (SaaS) in a world of AI agents?

I'll be looking into that very question in one of my next articles so stay tuned.
