So, three days ago I told ya about my little silver toning experiment involving the use of a boiled smashed egg.
Here is the final result for those of you curious of what happened:
As you can see the coins took a nice gold like toning. In case you wonder, I had them in the plastic container for about 9 hours. Dunno, I should have probably let one inside to see what would happen. I hear other colors like purple may appear.
As for the smashed egg... The dog loved it 😂
So what do you think about the toning? Personally I found it a bit meh so I will probably end up giving up these two coins to the upcoming #silvergoldstackers monster raffle 😂
And here's a quick scientific explanation by chatgpt in case you missed the previous posts
Eggs contain sulfur compounds, especially hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is responsible for their distinctive odor. When silver comes into contact with hydrogen sulfide or other sulfur-containing compounds, a chemical reaction takes place. Silver reacts with the sulfur to form silver sulfide (Ag2S). Silver sulfide is a dark compound, typically gray or black in color. It forms on the surface of the silver as a thin layer, creating a tarnished or toned appearance. Over time, the silver sulfide layer can accumulate and spread, leading to a more noticeable tarnish or toning effect on the silver item.
Ok plebs, that's it for today. Maybe I will repeat the experiment sometime in the future, we will see!

Mom used to tell me that a lot
Looks like effect of rust on iron. Thanks for doing the experiment so we dont have to. Haha
😅
I agree with @thedamus. Time to dip the sh-t off those coins. They look terrible. 😂🤣
And that's why I giving them away for the raffle. Shittiest gift ever 😂

Woof!
Hello, I am Jorge from Argentina, I collect coins, and looking at your post, I see that they have been incredible. If I confess that I missed your previous post, so I'm going to look for it to follow the thread.
Thanks for passing by fren!

Lucky dog.
Now you have some hundred year old coins.
Haha, yeah I guess I do in a way 😂
Those coins came out nice. Are you sure it's safe giving out those rotten eggs over to the dog?
Not rotten, they were quite fresh! Just 8 hours after cooking
Sometimes, if rarely, toning really adds to a piece.
This is not one of those times…
😳😲😜
However, I do appreciate the experiment… now maybe try and reverse it 🤷♂️ baking soda, tinfoil and boiling water — just sayin
🍻bah ha ha
Whoever wins them in the raffle can do that 😂😂😂
Bah ha ha… reminds me of a joke my dear ol’ Da used to say: here, Happy Birthday! It’s a balloon —> you can blow it up for Christmas.
😜
😅😂
Hehehe, I still prefer them as they come! Great experiment, @trumpman!
Yeah, me too!
Seems a bit overkill. Lol
Hehe it was 😂 I didn't expect so quick results!
That’s not very dark. The liver of sulfur drops turn it black in less then 1 minute. But nice experiment
Yeah I've used that stuff, it's awesome! And I hear it smells like New Jersey
xD
😂
I am trying that next fren!

That's a decent result my liver of sulfur coin was an even gold however like I mentioned before it developed some purple hues too a bit later but I am sure there is a way to get the exact tone you want just a matter of research and probably experimentation
I am trying that next!
Ooh wow
Anyone who does not know the process may just think that you painted the coin or something. I'm waiting for you to do this again so that purple can appear...lol
