So I was outside walking one late night and I came across something that caught my attention on the sky,
"red moon"
I have been seing it more lately, so I decided to do a little search about what makes it appear reddish.
According to various researches,
different meanings have been giving to it.
One called it,
Lunar Eclipse:
They refers to the appearance of the Moon during a total lunar eclipse.
The researchers said the Earth's atmosphere scatters blue light more than red light, this now brings about a reddish glow on the Moon.
Another researcher talks about it being a,
Folklore and Mythology
Were some cultures, believe a red moon is associated with omens, or signs and disasters, which significies special or disastrous events.
An example of the Norse mythology, was given where the red moon signaled the beginning of the end of the world, known as ''Ragnarök''🙃🙃
Some believe a red moon is known as the Blood Moon, which appears when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, blocking direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.
This makes the Earth's Atmosphere to scatters rays of sunlight, bending some of it around the Earth and onto the Moon.
Some said that for red moon to occur
Dust and Water Vapor
in the Earth's atmosphere can affect the intensity of how bright the Red Moon appears, when More particles in the atmosphere can enhance the reddening effect.
Here are some conditions i saw about how the red moon can be seen,
During a Full Moon.
When there is Total Lunar Eclipse.
Were the Earth must pass between the Sun and the Moon, blocking direct sunlight. When the *Earth's Atmosphere appears to be in the right conditions (clear weather conditions).
So finally it is said that the
Red Moons are relatively rare, which might just occur only twice a year on average.
But still there are times it appears more than this speculated times due to the Earth's slightly elliptical orbit.
I'm still hoping to understand more about the science behind the Red Moon!😊
