"He claimed that these measures would bring trillions of dollars into the budget and create jobs."
Anyone that looks into pre-Civil war America will note that tariffs were how the federal government was funded entirely, because income taxes were not brought in until the Civil war. When discussions of reducing tariffs came up under the Grant, Garfield, and Arthur administrations, loss of the protected industries and jobs was a primary concern of legislators of the day. Certainly with as much of American industry offshored as it has been presently, time will be required to rebuild native US manufacturing, in the event foreign goods become less available or too expensive, but I do not believe tariffs will destroy trade or cause some economic catastrophe as some alarmists claim.
"Create a single European army."
Given what Von der Leyen has been inflicting on the EU's member states, like Donald Tusk in Poland, pushing Meloni to back flip on immigration, literally couping Romania to prevent Georgescu's election, and Thierry's threat to do the same to France and Germany if they 'interfered' in their elections by electing leaders the EU doesn't like, I would fight for my life to prevent the EU from having it's own military force were I a civilian in Europe today.
"...transferring all military supplies delivered to Europe for Ukraine to Israel..."
As an American, I'm vehemently opposed to that. Bring our materiel home. It's what I expect from Trump and Hegseth, however, and I don't expect to find the utterly pro-Zionist foreign policy the Trump administration puts forward palatable at all. I noted that Trump's declaration that the US would seize (no other word fits the description) Gaza, evict the Palestinian people whose ancestral homeland it has been since prehistory, and rebuild it into a resort for 'people in the area' - excluding Palestinians, whom would have already been removed, that leaves only Israelis - was a threat to commit the war crime of genocide.
I work seven days a week, and I don't watch TV or any enemedia like Faux or CNN, so maybe I'm late to the party, but I am hearing that Egypt has moved ~50k troops to the border, and a coalition of 22 Arab states has stated they will themselves secure Gaza and Palestine for the Palestinian people. I've only heard this in the last hour, so I'm just about to start verifying the claims and ascertaining what's what. If there is substance to the assertion, I reckon my claim that Palestine won the 'war' with Israel has been proved, despite the almost unilateral destruction of Palestine that has been wrought. The lesson of history is that if a state is fighting an insurgency and the insurgency survives, the insurgency has won. In the recent delivery of hostages to Israel, Hamas appeared to be at full strength, and to have withstood everything Israel threw at them while slaughtering more than 40k Palestinian civilians, committing utterly outrageous atrocities like deliberately targeting children, setting dogs on the disabled to kill them, raping children in captivity, and using starvation as a weapon against the whole Gazan population, completely eliminating any support for Israel from any country or people with any commitment to justice, human rights, or interest in peace in the Levant.
So, I find the claim that Arab states have had enough and are taking action to prevent the total genocide of the population of Gaza highly credible on principle, and will proceed to seek verification immediately hereafter. My hope is that Israel and the US will not oppose such international coalition to end hostilities in Palestine and to rebuild and restore the infrastructure, communities, and homes of the Palestinian people that have been illegally seized, destroyed, and stolen.
Let's hope that the information regarding the cessation of the flow of arms to the Ukraine is completely factual, and that Zelensky will readily commit to terms everyone concerned will accept that ends the loss of lives and horrific suffering of the Ukraine without delay.
Thanks!
Hi. I had some issues with my brandwich, so I had to delay responding to the lengthy comment)))
I think that the tariff wars are partly inspired by Russia's economic success under sanctions. It's a way to create similar conditions and force the need to develop competitive domestic production. Ideally, this should also positively impact small producers of goods. Although, of course, having never been to America, I'm more interested in reading about the situation firsthand from someone who's witnessed the events.
Despite the US attempts to exit this conflict as peacekeepers with minimal losses, Europe and NATO are still very belligerent. Surely you've heard the recent statements from French and British leaders about the danger Russia poses to Europe and the start of an arms race? They're crazy if they hope to defeat Russia without America's help... but it's probably more about money, since as long as Europeans aren't dying in Ukraine, they can profitably trade in weapons and Russophobia.
As a reasonable Ukrainian, I also believe that everything American should stay in America! Moreover, stupid aggression and Nazism should be punished with the loss of resources, statehood, and independence, which never really existed here anyway...
I'm not an expert on the Israeli issue, but as I see it, they are committing far greater evil than anyone else, yet they face almost no criticism from other world leaders. I can't imagine how the US will resolve all the contradictions among its allies in a way that could be considered fair and satisfactory to all interested parties.
Naturally, the Palestinians have every right to their land and the inviolability of their borders. I hope that at the moment, America is not in the best economic position to militarily interfere with the Arab coalition in defending the rights of the Palestinians.
It's impossible to look at the horrors endured by the civilian population, especially children, without feeling deep sorrow.
Russia's humanity cannot be compared to Israel's cruelty toward its adversaries.
Zelensky will never agree to peace. For him, it would mean political, and possibly over time, physical death. He's ready to be rude to Trump and hand over all wealth to Europeans, just to keep things from moving towards peace. First, he'll be replaced, then there will be a peace treaty, and only then a ceasefire. The idea of NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine is a bluff)))
