What is Muun Wallet? A multisig Bitcoin Lightning Wallet that combines the advantages of custodial / non-custodial wallets.

English

What is Muun wallet? An innovative, highly secure, multisig Bitcoin Lightning wallet that combines the advantages of non-custodial and custodial wallets, while being self-custodial for on-chain transactions.

What is special about Muun is that it uses two keys for on-chain Bitcoin transactions. It's a multisig wallet. One key is managed by the provider, while the second key is stored in the local app.

This multisig approach even offers additional security. For example, if a hacker steals only the local key or only the key in the cloud, they cannot transfer any Bitcoin. You always need both keys for a transaction.

However, it is also possible to back up both keys yourself, which means that in an emergency situation, for example if Muun were to stop their service, it is still possible to access your Bitcoin. The wallet is therefore self-custodial.

Lightning transactions, on the other hand, are managed by Muun, i.e. there is no need to open or manage channels, which can be quite cumbersome. Small amounts are advanced by Muun and credits do not yet appear on-chain, but are only offset against the next on-chain transaction with Muun.

This makes the wallet very user-friendly, secure and efficient. A small disadvantage is that the multisig transactions and the periodic settlement of LN payments result in higher transaction fees for on-chain transactions.

I think all in all it's a good compromise between custodial and non-custodial.

What do you think of this approach? Has anyone already tried the Muun wallet? Which Bitcoin wallet do you use?

Munn wallet must be a very great one to use because it is secure
I like that!

Honestly, haven't heard about it , but i like the idea of been able to access your Bitcoin even when Muun isn't functional or stop their service.

It sounds interesting and I am glad to see that you can store both keys. At least you won't lose your wallet.

saw this in an ad. but didnt bother since im already using a ledger waller. much safer i think.

I don't really like this idea of someone else holding keys to my crypto, yes the transaction requires both keys, but still, it's eerie to me.

No I haven't heard of it before now, but thanks for the information.

havent tried it yet. this is my first time hearing about it.

i havent heard of it. but i will try to check it out.

I'm checking it out right away. Any links?
