Pretty much, the train derail didn't even make the news, the egg compound burn down also didn't make much noise, and so on...
Coincidentally the film adaption of Don DeLillo's 1985 book with similar events released recently. I didn't get the time to watch it. I can say that I loved Cosmopolis.
When Bill Gates, a known overpopulation believer, because the largest holder of farmland in the US, you knew that was the case.
Population numbers are a useless metric. What matter is the human competence. If the average intelligence of a population is going up, then we are better off with a larger population with more genius inventors scaling up productivity!

Another term for that is technology. As human technological ability expands, resources also move forward.
That is what guys like him miss.
Maybe they are actively ignore it in order to convince themselves as the leaders who deserve to be controlling humanity to make things better. These are sick, twisted and intelligent idiots.
They are obtuse too. Maybe it is because they are drunk with power.
But they are also missing a great part of the story.
