Heres an opportunity that cant be passed up.... For the first time in some 150yrs, the Royal Mint is releasing a Gothic Crown silver and gold coin.
The information being released by the mint is some what scetchy, but they have given a release date of 6th December 2021. With gold and silver versions available from 9am, these will 110% sell out in under an hour
The Great Engravers Collection continues with the first of two coins paying homage to the Gothic Crown, one of the most beautiful coins ever struck by the Royal Mint.

The pre-decimal florin (2s) was a unit of currency equalling two shillings, or one tenth of a pound sterling, or twenty-four pence. The denomination was introduced in 1849 (with a pattern minted in 1848) as the first move towards decimalisation of the British coinage.
The first type of florin was the so-called Godless Florin, the obverse of which omitted the traditional "DEI GRATIA" ("By the Grace of God") part of the Queen's legend. After much public outcry, this second type replaced it in 1851, showing the full legend. This second issue is known as the Gothic Florin because of the use of Gothic lettering in the legend.
The general style of the florins differs considerably from that of the rest of the contemporary coinage, especially in the obverse which uses the so-called "Gothic Portrait" of Queen Victoria not used on other British coins, excepting the Gothic Crown. This design was issued until 1887, when the Jubilee Florin was introduced on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne.

The queen Victoria gothic crown is considered by many, including myself, as one of the worlds most beautiful coins. They are incredibly sought after and any of them still in any good to fine condition will set you back a small fortune.
These 1847 crowns had a mintage of around rhe 8000 mark, and while firgures are pretty reliable, 8000 is more of a ball park fogure than an exact mintage.
As i said earlier, the Mint have kept this coin under wraps, so actual design and mintage figures are still unknown. Rumours on the silver forums suggest the design will pretty much be a replica of the origianl (sexy as fuck), and mintage figures will be around the 3500 mark, for the 1oz silver version...... so a relatively low mintage for a coin thouggt to be in such higg demand.
While i will be hoping to get my hands on a few of these coins, i know a few people who will be looking to spend big to make biflg returns. A 2oz gold version, is rumoured to be selling for around the £2500+, but with only a hundred or so being mjnted, returns could be 4 fold on the secondary market in a month or two (£10000).
Wish me luck and hopefully ill be able to buy a few before they sell out. Ill also be trying my luck directly at the Royal mint shop, as its just a 5 minute drive from work. If i am lucky enough to secure a few, ill drop some photos in a future blog.
