Adding 10 Canadian Maples to the stack, or the melting pot....

Yesterday was my birthday, but today was the real celebration—unwrapping 10 newly acquired Canadian 1oz Silver Maple Leaf coins! A personal treat to kick off 2025 with an extra 10 ounces of shiny goodness.

These 2015 Maples came from my good mate @BackyardBullion, a trusted seller on the Silver Forum. We’ve both been stacking since 2015, making these coins feel like a nostalgic nod to our early days. BYB knows I buy for weight, so when coins with a bit of “character” cross his path, he gives me a shout.

And by “character,” I mean tarnish, toning, and, of course, the notorious milk spots courtesy of the Royal Canadian Mint. These coins are far from pristine, but at spot price (plus shipping), they were a no-brainer.

The Silver Maple Leaf, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, is one of the purest silver coins in the world at .9999 fine silver. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse showcases Canada’s iconic maple leaf. These coins are both timeless and infamous—thanks to their tendency to develop milk spots.

** You know its cold outside, when your silver coins are blowing steam out of Elizabeth's mouth....

What’s next for these coins?

These battle-worn Maples will either:

  • Entertain the Kids – My children love playing “pirates” with my silver stash, and these coins make perfect treasure.

  • Become Bars – 2025 might be the year I finally fire up the melting pot and produce some hand-poured silver bars. Could the “Welshie Bar” become a reality?

Adding 10 ounces of silver this early in the year feels like a win. These Maples may not be beauties, but they’ve got history—and a place in my stack. Here’s to more shiny adventures in 2025

Nice win for you. Just made my first purchase of the year yeaterday after reading @silverd510 latest post about Engelhard.

I like coins with a little character as well. There is something about wondering about where a coin has been and who has handled it.

good luck

It’s recognized silver. Nice pick up.
You still haven’t sent me a Backyard Bullion piece yet…..

Very nice, good score with the Canadian Maple leafs Welshie!👍😊🤗

Nice score, spot plus shipping is a win!

Happy Birthday, @welshstacker!!! 🎉 Sounds like you treated yourself to quite the shiny gift. Those Canadian 1oz Silver Maple Leaf coins are a real treasure (even with milkspots). Unwrapping them must have been a great way to kick off 2025. Honestly, there's something so satisfying about adding those extra ounces to your stack. The reflections from a pristine silver Maple Leaf coin are enough to lift anyone's spirits.
