Vertical systems are more easily toppled than horizontal ones. In a vertical system, there's mainly one core foundation, attack it and the system crumbles. Horizontal systems have many core foundations intertwined together. It's much harder to topple it off. As more things get build into it and the core foundations are enhanced the system becomes more resilient. Hive is like that.
