Hi planet auto..
In my first post in this community, I will discuss about the automatic transmission on your vehicle.
Cars with automatic or automatic transmission are transmission shift systems that are regulated without having to step on the clutch pedal.
Automatic transmission has two types of systems, namely semi-automatic and automatic. Both are known to be simpler and easier to drive.
Keep in mind, driving an automatic transmission car is not just gas and brakes. You also need to have good driving skills and feeling.
As is well known, the basic workings of an automatic transmission are P for parking, N for neutral, R for reverse, and D for forward.
In addition, the automatic lever usually has a P-R-N-D-D3-2-L arrangement. Some people may be confused by the code listed on the transmission system, especially for new drivers.
But don't worry, consider the following explanation which might help you not to be confused when driving an automatic car.
P (Parking)
The automatic transmission code P or parking serves to lock the transmission so that the car engine cannot move. However, its use is different from the parking brake.
When in the P position, actually the tires can still move, but not with the engine because the transmission is locked. Therefore, P is recommended for use when the car is stopped for a long time or parked.
R (Reverse)
R is the code for the automatic transmission that functions to drive the car. As the name suggests, reverse has a function to help the car move backwards or backwards.
N (Neutral)
Next is the automatic transmission code N, which makes the engine in neutral but does not lock it. So, if the parking brake is not active, the automatic car on the N transmission can still be moved either forward or backward by being pushed.
In addition, N itself is used when the car is stopped for a moment, such as when the road conditions are congested.
D (Drive)
D or Driver is generally used when the car is moving on normal road terrain, meaning that the road is sloping and does not go through an incline.
You can adjust the gas and brake pedals, then smartly, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) will adjust the gearshift according to engine speed and car speed.
Numbers 2 and 3
Usually, the automatic transmission code in the form of the number 2 is under D, while 3 is next to it. 3 or D3 in some cars means instructing the engine to limit the ratio to only 3 gears.
Meanwhile, 2 or S (Second) can be used when you go through a not too steep incline and require the engine brake when descending.
L (Low)
L or 1 in some cars means an automatic transmission code that instructs the engine to use a low gear or limits it to 1 gear only.
Preferably, use the L transmission to bulldoze steep and long inclines so that the engine gets a large enough torque.
When you've passed it, don't forget to adjust your car's transmission again. This is to prevent heavy pressure on the transmission system and engine that could potentially damage the components inside.
Shift Lock
Today's automatic cars on average have provided the Shift Lock button near the lever. Shift Lock is useful for shifting the gear lever from P to N even though the car engine is not turned on.
This feature is often used when the car is parked in parallel, so it can be pushed and does not interfere with other cars.
That's the meaning of the automatic transmission code in the form of letters and numbers and their uses. So, don't use it wrong, because it can damage the engine and transmission components of your car.
