What do you do when you get into a drag race with a Heron? Film it! 😊
We live near an RSPB Bird Reserve, so we sometimes see some amazing friendly fliers that are from there. The reserve even have a three hour Dawn Chorus Walk that you will be able to attend soon (as lockdown restrictions are gradually being eased) which bring the Spring mornings to life.
Herons are beautiful birds, and it's always great to see them. For some, a sighting of one has significance and meaning - it is a sign that is telling you keep still, be tranquil, as this way you can see the opportunities when they arrive.
As Herons are fantastic hunters, it makes sense that such qualities are associated with this majestic bird, it's just icing on the cake when you find yourself in the same flight path as one!
We were travelling in the VW Golf GTE after filming for the review, so it was welcome sight on our journey home...
Cool meeting !
Wasn't it, we managed 31mph side by side, thank you
I call that cruise mode
We call it slow for a Golf GTE and bloody quick for large fish catching bird which resembles a Stratofortress 😆
We see a heron every year at one point or another, it lands in the pond on our condo property between flights or something. It’s awesome to see! This year it came back a few times, being a great hunter. Someone released a lot of goldfish into the pond and the heron couldn’t resist but have a delicious snack hahaha. It cleaned the whole pond out in two days and went on to its business elsewhere. Our son loved the fish but wasn’t excited when I told him the bird ate them all lol
Aww, yes the Heron can be brutal, we live next to a place called RSPB Leighton Moss, its famed for Bitterns, behind this shot is Morecambe bay.
