Cars and movies - or movies and cars?

in Planetauto4 years ago

For me, some of the most iconic cars I've ever seen have been in the movies, and on the tv, and so it begs the question - which one is your favourite?

Oh, where do I start? How do I begin??? Let's go with this - what is the first vehicle that you remember that caught your eye from a film or a tv show? For me, it's this one:

Forever branded on my memory is the 1978 Pontiac Firebird, driven by Jim Rockford in The Rockford Files, and for me, this was his partner in his Private Detective agency, and was with him through thick and thin...

Now the beauty of this car was that it handled well, and looked good - especially in Gold. For me, it's synonymous with the actor as well - James Garner.

James Garner was a huge movie and tv star, and is well known for this role. Fun fact, he did most of the driving in the show (which involved a fair number of chase scenes, lol) as he was a fantastic driver in real life.

He had been trained by champion racecar - and Formula One - driver Bob Bondurant in the 1960's for the film Grand Prix, and it was love at first sight for the actor. From that point on, he was hooked, and cars, as well as racing became a passion.

This comes across in The Rockford Files, which is why I feel that his car is his partner. What are your thoughts?

Cool memories of watching the Rockford Files. The theme tune is now in my head thanks for that lol. 1st time I saw a J turn, later to repeat in my Mk3 Cortina in a frozen college carpark with a terrified passenger good times :)

Oh wow - I bet that was fun, lol!! Question - did said terrified passenger ever travel in a car with you again? 😆

Apologies for the ear worm though! It's been in my head too, lol! I have to say, I want to watch that Grand Prix film now!

Annabelle.

Yes, he did. Took another twenty years for him to admit how scared he was lol! It probably didn't help when the gear stick came away in my hand 2nd to third on a previous trip and I just handed it to him and cooly said "Hold that for a minute!" 1st car bangers are the best

"Hold that for a minute!" - Roger Moore as James Bond could not have done any better!!! 🤣🤣🤣

You have style!

Annabelle.

Annabelle, you have made my day lol. Is it a bit early for a Vodka Martini :))

A car which really caught my attention was the Plymouth Fury from the film Christine. I would love to own on of them in bright red .

Oooo, me too, @mattsbeamer! Have you read the book? Soo good 😈 Ben actually saw the evil car from "The Car" at Santa Pod when he was there back in the '90's!
