Spam is repetitive, unwelcome comments spewed en masse regardless of context. That is what you do. Stop it.
Down noting spam is not harmful to the community. That is one of the main purposes of downvotes and reputations cores: allowing the community to self-police spammers and other forms of abuse.
The unrepentant spammer who frequently shouts in all caps when he isn't pretending to be an entire team of moral crusaders is the one who needs to seek help, not the guy who writes on diverse topics and engages with even the worst unrepentant spammers.
