Along the 160 mile Saxon Shore Way is St Margaret’s Bay. A shingle beach nestled at the bottom of Kent's famous White Cliffs coastline.
The Coastguard bar offers visitors an excellent choice of menu and traditional Kentish ales. As well as icy cold jugs of Pimms. Free campervan overnight parking makes the bay an attraction for nomadic explorers.
Stroll up onto the cliff-top and follow the 5 mile St Margaret’s Bay walk to take in glorious views along the coastline.
This idyllic and tranquil part of England bears the scars of Kent's important role in wars through the ages. From Henry II to Winston Churchill, there are signs dotted across the landscape. Including perched atop the cliff walk, facing out to Europe, a humble, and somewhat unassuming WWI and WWII RAF memorial to the 'Few'.
Eventually, the clifftop path will bring you to South Foreland Lighthouse, where an old fashioned traditional English cream tea can be had, in proper china teacups, poured from a real tea pot.
