Hi all Hivers!
As you may have gathered, I am a volcano of ideas, and this time I have come up with a column where I "reveal" the meaning behind each song.
I chose rock as a musical current, with all its facets from hard rock to 'heavy, passing through Speed Metal (Metallica type early albums).
In short, a real compendium that will see over 60 years of music examined!
Nothing studied, technical or "brainy"; a bit of setting, the lyrics of the song and what I can glean as meaning.
The real meaning of the song is already written on Wiipedia, so it would be a duplication and not a real PoB (Proof of Brain!).
Well, let's get started!
This piece is part of a rock opera written by Pink Floyd in 1979; it is called an opera because there are no breaks between songs, and most importantly, each song tells a part of the story of Pink an imaginary rocker.
Hey You is about the incommunicability between the character and his own spouse.
Lyrics:
Hey you
Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don’t give in without a fight.
Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I’m coming home.
But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.
Hey you, standing in the road
always doing what you’re told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don’t tell me there’s no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.
(Noise of a television that is on)
“Well, only got an hour of daylight left. Better get started”
“Isnt it unsafe to travel at night?”
“It’ll be a lot less safe to stay here. You’re father’s gunna
pick up our trail before long”
“Can Loca ride?”
“Yeah, I can ride… Magaret, time to go! Magaret, thank you for everything”
“Goodbye Chenga”
“Goodbye miss …”
“I’ll be back”
Given the social situation of the moment I say this piece is current despite being written over 40 years ago.
I link to the post I wrote a few days ago:

A good deal of the incommunicability our society suffers from stems from an overuse of smartphones connected to various social networks.
Allow me the parallel: socials are centralizing our communications; all of our lives go through them.
We are losing the ability to socialize, compare ourselves with our peers be independent.
The song is a seesaw of positive (I'm coming home) and negative thoughts (it was just fantasy, the wall is too high) all emphasized by Roger Waters' musical compositions.
The final line stuck with me:
"Together we stand, divided we fall."
Together we stand, divided we fall: do you not feel a certain assonance with social distancing (covid), Distance Learning, and these obtuse socials?
See you at the next song!
Amazing song, one of the best in Music history
Yay! 🤗
