Salam everyone. I hope you all are fine. I am doing well too. ( In case you wanted to know)
This is my entry to the #weekend-engagement and I would like to talk about the financial rewards that people give to children when they complete their tasks.
Every coin has a flip side and I am a firm believer of this. There are multiple benefits of rewarding children with money. I should make it clear that the brain of a child is very sensitive and observant. A child learns a lot the behavior of adults in the surrounding.
I think a child should not be limited to only financial rewards at the completion of tasks. The reward can be a pat of encouragement on the shoulder as well, it can be a public hauling of the kid in front of others. It can be as little as a smile of appreciation.
What I am trying to imply here is that the child needs to be appreciated in more than one ways. If we reward the child only financially, the chances are that the child has only one dimensional thinking. It would make him or her think that a monetary reward is necessary at the fulfilment of what is expected of him.
In my experience, my father used to give me pennies whenever I answered a tricky question and that made me really happy and to some extent greedy too. At the beginning it was the excitement of being right, but then it turned into the excitement of winning the money.
It has a lasting impact on our brain. I mean I would never want my child to be one dimensional, prioritizing money over personal growth. Morever, completion of daily tasks is something a child should do as a responsibility not as an obligation and there is a difference between these two. The child should not be expecting a financial reward for that.
