An Epic Concert In Hyderabad, India

(Coldplay part 1), you’ve noticed how hard it was to get a Coldplay ticket in India. Like many others, my girlfriend and I were among a few who didn’t get them. All hope was lost but fortunately, we had another British bloke that decided to show up in India and sing in multiple cities. With a bit of peer pressure from Ramesh, we decided to book a show in Bangalore but lost the battle again to the demanding public. Que in extra “FOMO” and the lightning speed at which the tickets were selling, we proceeded to book a show in Hyderabad. After which we realised that the platform was releasing tickets in phases and that we could have still gotten the Bangalore tickets. If you’ve seen the post by @bighungrypanda |

Nonetheless, we kept our chins up and made a wonderful trip out of this concert. And that’s how we caught the ‘Mathematics tour’ concert in Hyderabad performed by Ed Sheeran!!

The concert was on a Sunday, 2nd February and although it has been a few days since, we are still in the concert mentally, singing our hearts out to ‘Perfect’, ‘Shape of you’, and ‘Photograph’.

The concert took place in a venue called ‘Ramoji Film City’, which was located almost 33 km (21 miles) from the hostel we were staying at. The concert layout was divided into the General Access Plus which was the first quarter of the ground, right in front of the stage and then there was General Access, which was the rest three quarters of the ground. The General Access tickets for 2 cost us 9000 INR (103 USD) but the ticket prices varied since they were being released in phases. The later the phase appears on the ticketing platform, higher would be the ticket cost. We got our entry bands delivered to our home and they were the key to enter the concert and purchase any eateries and merchandise.

We rented out bikes for the entire duration of the trip and decided to ride to and from the venue considering that having our own transportation would make things easier. Right? Wrong!

We reached the venue after a journey of 1 and a half hours. It was 3pm in the afternoon and after a heavy lunch a couple of hours prior, we weren’t in the best shape to walk. But as luck would have it, the bike park was the furthest away from the venue and had a good long uphill walk, which damn nearly made us want to head back home. The scene was almost comical, and we laugh now at the memory of us- young adults in our 20’s - huffing and puffing their way up the slightly slanted road.

Once we were at the venue, there was a long line, and we were dismayed because we had around 150 people ahead of us. The dismay quickly changed to glee when a line triple or quadruple that size began forming behind us. However, the gates opened right on time, and we stepped in to wait in more lines for the metal detector and bag screening. We booked the General Access tickets, so we were almost unsure of getting a good viewing spot. @bighungrypanda did us a solid by securing a great spot with a view of the center of the stage and with that, the wait to see Ed decreased and our excitement increased.

We got ourselves some sodas to combat the heat and after wishing and hoping for the sun to set soon, it finally did and there was a welcome drop in temperature. Not long after, the concert began with an opening act by an Indian singer/ songwriter named Armaan Malik. The crowd was energized and hyped up as he sang a few popular songs in Hindi and English. Once the crowd was fully pumped up, he quickly made an exit for the man of the hour to perform. With 30 minutes of stage prep, Ed Sheeran took onto the stage and played some absolute bangers!

Making his way through funny life stories, he performed for a whopping two and a half hours. Ed managed to keep the crowd engaged, interacted endlessly and had the crowd raving with his energy. He was essentially a one-man-band and is a truly talented musician. And the best part? He seemed to be having a blast singing and playing all the instruments and having us sing along.
As the show came to an end, the crowd dispersed happily and so did we with our riding adventure back to the hostel.
