Hello, everyone. It's been less than an hour since my birthday anniversary ended.
This year has been interesting, to say the least. I have had a lot of projects face a dead-end, some through unfair litigation. It just feels like the country as a whole is made for only a few people to enjoy it.
My uncle once said "Iraq hates its citizens. There's another Iraq behind the scenes", which sounds like a crazy, pessimistic statement. But, throughout the years, I have come to see that with my own eyes. I have lost translation jobs to people who couldn't string a sentence in English.
You might believe I am exaggerating, but that's the truth. There will be times when my interviewers would try to speak English and they wouldn't make sense. To give you an example of that I would share this video with someone I lost a job to back around 2016-2017
You could see the level of how bad it is even if you don't know Arabic.
But I Digress.
Going into this year, I had one decision in mind since my dreams and goals are still the same since 2014, and that decision is to give up on this country.
It sounds like a dark thought, but it has been elevating, it kept me from wasting time hoping to get noticed by someone who's probably got his job and money not by knowing what he is doing as much as knowing someone who knows someone. The country is in a stale, regressive state and I am having none of that.
Birthday Wish
As I said, my long-term goal is still making a movie, maybe a full feature or even a short one. I will be applying to places where I could get support for that, but the money together myself, and who knows maybe post about it here and try to garner support through hive.
The Weather
I think resembles how little excitement I had to celebrate my birthday than how the weather has been all day.
A sand storm. I haven't celebrated my birthday in many years, as I link birthdays to hopeful futures and I haven't been really hopeful for a long time.
Add to that, the fact that this is what they 8 in 28 ended up looking like.
I am pretty sure it is a metaphor for something.
The Reason I Decided To Celebrate This Time
I have a newfound hope, a realistic one in a way. Before that I had this idea of hope which states "Once I get this done, I will own the world". My current hope is slowly and putting money together and make my first film. After that, I will work on the next one.
Simply put, I am no longer having a dream that is essentially 200 dreams put together. It sounds like a late realization at 28, but that's just the way it is.
My Goal Before My Next Birthday
I am working toward getting one production done. Maybe a full feature film, a short film, a theatre production, or anything art-related in Iraq. Can be as simple as creating a hologram show.
