I'm doing a mixed tape for our trip to America

Mixed tapes lol, do you remember those?

So because I'm full of nonsense I've smashed these together. I decided I'd let you in on a little secret about our upcoming trip. A precursory warning - the images I've used are not necessarily from the actual places I chose because I couldn't find free images of them all. These will give you an idea of what it will consist of though.

Put this awesome tune on while you read this...

This song will be in the car when we start driving as it will be our first vacation since the pandemic hit. I've been planning this trip for months and yet, I haven't actually settled on the dates because it being just LL and me would be kinda drab. I'm not the most entertaining adult around for a little kid and she's so bored with me as it is.

So seeing as we'll be flying out to L'america for a good two months solid, I have jam packed the itinerary.

I know most people would want to do Disney World with their kid, but I'm not taking LL there. I'd want us to explore more of the natural world and then get into some of the countryside towns, off the beaten track. Sure we'd probably do some of the normal touristy things, I heard so many times about balls of string, but when I looked them up, they seemed just as disappointing as all those movies made them out to be, so that's not on the list.

So shall we dive right in? I decided we'd first land in Hawaii because LL asked me a while back what the dance is that they do with straw skirts. I think that if we could get greeted at an airport or resort with a Hula dance, that would really be the best kind of welcome for her. She loves the movie Moana so doing some nice beach hopping would be right up her alley. Maui would be on the list and perhaps a few of the lesser touristy spots too. Something like this would work...

The Cathedral Caverns in Alabama could be really nice. They house the largest stalagmite called Goliath that I know my mom would have loved to see, so we'll visit that in her honour. I think that caving (spelunking) is pretty rad and while I'm sure LL would be happy to get into those tiny crevices some of them have, I'm more inclined to see the bigger caves.

LL and I both love forests and try to get out to them around where we currently stay as often as possible. There's something quite eerily awesome about the unsettling silence in forests if you still your mind and just listen. I love it. It's like they absorb all the noise from the world around you.

When I lived in the UK for a while I visited the Redwood trees in Salisbury and even though I've lost the photos, I still ave the memories. I love meeting ancient trees. Sequoia National Park would be a definite stop for us and we'd probably stay in that area for a few days to explore.

How a forest ecosystem works fascinates me. The fact that trees communicate by the enzymes in the soil and send signals of fires, herbivores browsing - how the different layers of a canopy work in perfect symbiosis with each other. It is just insane. The macrofauna and flora too, the epiphytic orchids, moss and lichens. You could spend a lifetime in a forest and never be privvy to all their secrets. And well, they're also home to fireflies. I want to seek out fireflies. They have glowing bums. How can you not think that's cute? I know, I'm weird.

Tullulah Gorge would also be somewhere that I'd love LL to see in Autumn. I'd have to tackle my fear of heights for this one, but that would be a small sacrifice and to miss this would just suck.

Lake Superior? Yup, let's grab some camping equipment and kayaks and spend a few nights there. We probably wouldn't do the hectic kayaking, just the more placid stuff.

I know that LL and I both want to see wild Moose. They're just the funniest looking things. I can't get over how silly they were made out to be in the movie Brother Bear. It clinched it for me. Of course LL would probably want to pet the damn thing so we'd have to have a little bit of a safety talk before hand, you know, responsible parenting and all. NO MOOSE PETTING ALLOWED!

And the last phenomenon that I would put on this bucket list trip would be the Northern Lights. I don't really even need to write about this one... just look!

So I know I can take two companions, LL is obviously in there. I've decided to invite @Becca-mac to come along. Why? Well because we'll be visiting Jurassic Park theme park in Orlando as our last outting. I know that you and LL had a prior engagement to see dinos, so you keen to experience all of this awesomeness with us and top it off with this?...

Oh here's another awesome driving song. I'd have to put this on the mixed tape...

I absolutely love this song. Apart from the lyrics that pull me to all the natural elements of the world that I feel kinship with, it speaks of the absolute determination it takes to get through hardships especially with all the division amongst people. That flamenco guitar solo midway gives me fucking goosebumps every time I listen to it.

You can be anything you want to be
Just turn yourself into anything
You think that you could ever be
Be free with your tempo, be free, be free
Surrender your ego, be free
Be free to yourself

If there's a God, or any kind
Of justice under the sky
If there's a point, if there's a reason
To live or die
If there's an answer to the questions
We feel bound to ask
Show yourself, destroy your fears
Release your mask

Oh yes, we'll keep on trying
Hey, tread that fine line
Yeah, we'll keep on smiling, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
And whatever will be, will be

I'm looking forward to this trip so much now I can barely wait.

Lake Superior is the best - we plan a trip every summer and rent a cabin in/near Grand Marais for a week. The hiking, the lake, the food, the full moon...it's absolutely amazing. If my crypto portfolio every did anything ever again, I would definitely consider buying something up there for the family. There is something very old and majestic about being around Mother Superior!

I've heard wonderful things about Lake Superior, I can see why you go there annually. I think that's a great idea for your crypto, I also plan on one day buying land with mine. It will go up again, there's just so much FUD at the moment.

Mother Superior indeed, I like that, she knows what's what. I can't wait to have a vacation camping again, it's been way too long.

Have a fab week @sagesigma

You as well!

These images and the accompanying descriptions are on point. The more I read, the more I realize that there is so much I have not seen and there is so much I need to see. I will place these on my list, though I am not certain if I will ever make it. This is with the exception of the Northern Lights though. It is definitely on my bucket list. Oh, and Hawaii too. Awesome post.

Hey Nicholas

Thanks for reading my post and your message. You and I both feel like there's so much out there to see! The northern lights are just insane. I could look at that for nights in a row and never get tired of it.

It's exciting to know that nothing is really ever entirely out of reach, if you work towards achieving the things on your bucket list, you'll fulfill them. Just keep the end goal in mind, it helps.

Have a fab Sunday

Wow, I'm looking at the images and your descriptions and I am thinking that there is so much of the world that, as an island girl, I am yet to see. All of this is so intriguing.

I'm scared of enclosed spaces and the dark, and yet I am fascinated by the idea of spelunking if only to see in real life stalactites and stalagmites.

The forest is always a favorite, and oh boy, yes, the Northern Lights. This is divine! It's awesome that you're thinking of going beyond Disney and actually mapping out real world adventures. I think they're all great. And I love Lorde, by the way.

Hi @trifecta-tt

I feel the same as you do, I've seen so little of the world, but we can dream right? This kind of trip would be spectacular even if I didn't get to half of these places, just the experience itself would be worthy of writing a book.

Disney world is very over-rated I think, I want LL to have experiences that enrich her soul and don't just entertain her, perhaps some people will disagree, but I would take LL walking in a forest or camping out on a plateau in the middle of nowhere over a theme park anyday.

Lorde is pretty darn cool. This song of hers has special meaning to me, I really enjoy her voice.

Have a wonderful end to the weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Nature trips can be therapeutic for the soul! Great itinerary! :)

Absolutely! I can't go long without some time outdoors, I literally start to lose my marbles 😆

How a forest ecosystem works fascinates me.

Me too! Simply mindboggling, as are the Northern Lights when you see them:)
This would be an awesome road trip Andy!

Thanks bud, I think it would be a good one. Loads of free open road driving, music, great food, good company, camping and camp fires, smores 'n mores. Bucket list stuff. You've done a fair amount of travelling, you seen the northern lights I take it?

Yeah saw them I used to work in Shetland, nature really rocks!

Oh! my, the Northern light is magical, and exploring that dark cave will be scary and at the same time a great, fun life experience.

You have a perfect description of what your trip to America will be like.

Hi @funshee thanks a stack, I can only imagine what those lights must feel like when you below them, truly something else. Caving is good fun, I wish I could get on that plane right now and do it!

I wish you all the best and lots of fun on your trip, when it happens. And I will be here to feed my eyes on all the shots you are going to take and share with us❤

Wow.. I.love those photos and love to visit those places too 🥰

I wouldn't mind seeing ole Goliath!!

Bring the little ones and we can all go exploring. It would be wicked. America's a big place, there's so much cool stuff that even 2 months would only scratch the surface.

You would need a whole year, you're on!! :0)

I love your start to your trip in Hawaii, it's fascinating everything you get there. I keep watching the show My Home in Hawaii and am amazed by the beaches.

Oh I imagine your little girl wanting to pet a moose, but with those antlers, I would stay away.

Maybe we'll overlap at a gas station on our North American travels.

This sounds like a great plan! I'd love to go road tripping with you and exchange stories. It would be so much fun.

Yes, you know kids want to pet everything in the animal kingdom. We can't really blame them.

Wow those caves look awesome!

They do look quite spectacular, I'd love to explore them.

Looks like it's going to be a jam pack holiday, but will you still get to see the northern light at this time of the year? It will be really awesome if you do.

Hi @livinguktaiwan

Thanks for stopping by. I am still working out all the logistics of it, if we miss the northern lights I would be quite sad, but would give me a good excuse to come back and see more :)

Hope you are well.

Talullah Gorge is only a couple of hours north of me and we have been there several times. Sounds like an amazing trip packed full of some of the best the U.S. has to offer!

Hi Papacrusher

Oh how cool, you probably know of loads of the less popular but amazing places. Two months isn't enough but I would be happy to see all of these and some of the towns along the way.

Queen is a legend! I love him too!

Absolutely. Powerful lyrics in this one and then some of the more silly ones like "I'm going slightly made" - I sing it sometimes when my kid is running circles around me 😂

This. Is. Epic! Your trip sounds amazing, and the mix tape will be a triumph.

Annabelle 😊
