The Border Collie puppy is 4 months old

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

Puppies never stay the little cute and extra adorable happy to be still and cuddled on your lap for very long do they? On the drive back to my place after the breeder handed this 7 week old puppy, a Blue Merle Border Collie to my son, I got to cuddle him lots because I sat in the back seat. Going along for the ride was truly worth it.

Here is a photo my son took from the front seat.

Look at this gorgeous little puppy dog now, who loves walking, running, meeting and socialising with people and other dogs. He is called Onyx and thriving in every way. On Saturday afternoon one week ago I was glad I walked with my son and Onyx. It was simply delightful watching beach goers smile and laugh at this little blue merle puppy. His unusual patterned colours, happiness and cocky prancing made him stand out. An endless stream of people kept coming up and chatting to my son about Onyx, many of whom were very surprised when told he was a border collie.

Blue Merle Border Collies are definitely not common like the black and white Border Collies are. Blue Merles are a mixture of colours, black, grey and white with pinkish noses. Onyx's mother is a Blue Merle Border Collie and his father is a Red and White Border Collie. Blue Merles can be mistaken for the multi coloured patterned Australian Shepherds at a first glance, but Aussie Shepards are bigger heavier dogs and a very different breed.

In the end dogs are dogs regardless of their breeds. All are very accepting. And they don't seem to be fazed by differences with shape, colour or size. Like all puppies Onyx is highly sociable dog.

This tall black curly Labrador is called Cass. The owners said they had to change his name as the previous owners called him Casserole. They just could not call out Casserole while walking him. He was a gorgeous gentle boy of 9 years old.

When Onyx was a little furry puppy, black, grey and white were his 3 prominent colours. But, as he has grown older the fourth colour, the red from his father is coming through more and more on his face and the on inside of his back legs.

For example the red colour can be seen on either side of his face in this photo.

Interestingly in the first photo of this post, a patch of lightish reddish brown can be seen on each side of his face when he was 7 weeks old, something we missed at the time.

This very loved little multi-coloured blue merle that has a very easy going temperament is having the best life a puppy could have. The owners are loving, gentle and firm as puppies show so much love as they explore and push boundaries. And of course like all dogs who love swimming in rivers and the ocean, and running in the water on the beach, they are never happy being washed off with the hose.

The puppy action on the beach took place one Weekend ago before I had to leave on Sunday to go the wedding in Brisbane with my hubby. From then to now there has been a pause due to Ben catching the Covid virus somewhere on our travels.

Even though today is Tuesday this post was always intended to be written for The Weekend, so I am publishing it under this tag created by Mr Nice Guy @galenkp. Living a happy retirement everyday feels like a Sunday! This Sunday was indeed both an active, highly enjoyable, beautiful and sublime on the beach and at the fabulous wedding we attended.

Ending this post with a photo of Onyx drinking his water. I was taken back with the large portion of white hair on his head and down his back. He does have an extraordinary striking coat of many colours.
