Would you like to dog sit this weekend?

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

Can you help me out plea arrived from our youngest, the week before Easter? As we had no plans to go away or social get togethers organised this year due to my hubby recovering from a bout of covid infection, we had no reason not to take him up on his offer. Anyway I remember the dilemmas of arranging care for our three pet dogs over 35 years when holidaying, so I could feel his frustration with finding a trustworthy dog sitter.

Of course we said yes. How could we not, we are the retired parents, silver bloggers who have plenty of time and energy to lend a helping hand.

So looking forward to a change of scenary my hubby and I packed our bags for a 3 night Easter weekend stay in Brisbane with Willow the 8 year old Weimaraner. We were expecting a quiet peaceful pace as this middle aged mature easy going gorgeous girl likes to sleep a lot.

And she did not let us down.

Soft beds were conveniently arranged for her comfort around the house including the bedroom. Wherever we happen to be in the house a happy Willow was close by.

My son's house is situated near an attractive environmentally designed waterways with walking/bike path for the locals and their dogs. We both enjoy walking as well as the fun of exploring something new so in the afternoon leaving Willow to look after the house while we went adventuring.

She was left at her home because Willow pulls on her lead and given her size and weight it was not possible to hold her in check or stop her from going where she wanted to. What if she got away? We tried not to feel bad as our son runs her every morning so she does get enough exercise.

The park was a grand find, very pretty and very popular park well used by walkers, cyclists and proud dog owners and their happy dogs.

It is always a pleasure to see dogs merrily swimming in water and this weekend for once it was not in the ocean. They obviously swim here frequently and were having a wonderful time as owners watched on and chatted away.

Breathing in the glorious colourful sunsets as I sipped on a glass of Riesling was a rewarding end to each dog sitting day. While I thought it would be a breeze to take photos of the setting sun from the front of the house it turned out to be highly challenging. The power lines got in the way big time and there was no way I could avoid them.

I am positive photographer extraordinaire @johannpiber would take the most professional photos without the power poles and power lines running across the middle. I regrettably could not.

The first photo has the prettiest golden light filling the clouds.

The second photo showing a beautiful deep red end of the sunset in a darkening sky was taken 5 minutes later. It always amazes me how quickly daylight turns to dark light in the sub tropics. Here one moment gone the next.

Both photos are busy with the power poles, power lines, the bright balls of the street lamps shining bright and the round ball shaped outdoor light sitting in the leaves of the shrubs at the bottom of the stairs. I saw an incredible creative mixture of light, colour, shape and texture with man made clever constructions and nature's pure magic delights.

So was my Easter weekend, full of rest, fun and adventure in a lovely old home looking after Willow the Weimaraner. And as I only arrived home yesterday my post written under the fabulous tag The Weekend created by the clever energetic @galenkp.

Writing about my weekend allowed me to re-live the fun of patting and caring for Willow, the walking along the brook and the the vivid sunsets reigning supreme over an old established inner city Brisbane suburb. Such a good feel weekend.

All mature and old dogs were once cute little puppies which is when they capture the heart of the owners. Who can resist a puppy? I know I can't.

Here is a very cute photo of Willow, taken by my daughter-in-law, when she first came home in 2013. She was a very adorable.

Willow is having the best dog's life living with his owners.

You sure had a beautiful easter weekend. I like to walk in the park. There is this beautiful connection with nature it brings to my mind. Happy new week

I do so agree, nothing beats a walk in nature. A lovely long weekend is good for the soul, we all need them. I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend too @joydukeson, wishing you lots of happiness.🙏

Weimaraners are wonderful dogs, and Willow is a wee beauty. I know she is eight and a bog dog, but still a wee pup to me. I call all dogs pups, because too many people ignore them after the leave the puppy stage!

What a wonderful Easter weekend you had, I would dogsit Willow anytime. The park does look a grand place too😁

But some can be a little cranky as little Onyx, the Border Collie Blue Merle go attacked by a large black and white dog on the weekend. He is okay but it was very traumatising for the owners.Good morning @tengolotodo, I find dogs of all age and sizes extra cute too, there is something special about them.

Yes, yes I do want to petsit that dog. So cute. I'm glad you had such a relaxing weekend. How lovely to be asked to granddog sit - now that is a relaxing grandmother role.

I did think of Willow as a granddog😀 and to think each of the three adult kids have a dog.
You are right, far less active than looking after the 2 grand boys.
I always think how adorable your big old dog is, dogs definitely get easier as they grow older.

Older dogs always look like ruffled teddy bears to me, and who can resist a living ruffled teddy bear?

Aw, what a great way to spend a weekend. That doggie looks like an absolute beauty! What a sweet creature.

As long as Willow has a bed, a floor and the sun she is a happy girl.
She has been the best dog with the little boys, never once has she growled at them no matter what they have done. Her usual style is to move away.

She's really a lovely nice looking dog, but huge. This reminds me on my childhood when we had a dog (also a she) who went with us where she wanted to go and she was so much stronger than we kids were ... it was much fun though 😂

Gorgeous sunsets, Angie, and believe me, I would have taken the same images as you have, but I would have spent quite some time to clone the power lines out 😁

I don't need to ask if you have had a nice Easter weekend, because it was nice, as I could see and read above 😊

A friend who owns a couple of little dachshunds referred to Willow as a lump of a dog. Mind you she is not wrong.
Dogs are such great pets for children, we had a couple of cocker spaniels when I was a kid.
I did wonder when I took the photo how you possibly 'clone' out the power lines but since I am a klutz with photography it was definitely not a goer for me.
Hope you had a relaxing family Easter intermixed with a trip to do some photography. 💜

Yep, dogs are great for kids, but the one that we had wasn't because she was just bought without knowing anything about dogs. She made many problems and none of us knew how to handle it. So, after a while, my parents gave her away.

When it's too much work I don't clone the power lines out and leave the images as they are. Sometimes I just change my position when I take the photo to have them in an area where they are not so distracting or where it's easier to clone out in post 😉

Wishing you a wonderful day, dear Angie 🌞

!PIZZA and !BEER served with !LUV - sounds like a nice dinner :)

Do you make gluten free pizza bases?😀

I would love to petsit Willow, she's just as beautiful now as she was cute as a puppy.

Weimaraners have beautiful natures. Willow is also a good guard dog, no-one gets in if she does not know them.

Willow is a beautiful looking dog and having a grand life. Nice to have a different change of scenery, Angie with this park to take a walk. 💕

A change of walking scenery was fabulous Jo and it gave us an opportunity to try out living in a Brisbane suburb as well.
Hope your Easter was a good one💗
