Hello guys. How are you all doing? I hope you had a wonderful weekend as I certainly did.
My post is an entry to @galenkp weekend-engagement concept for week 132. Thank you so much for bringing out such amazing topics once again. I have chosen the topic “If you could buy and keep an animal, what would it be and why? The animal can be any that has ever existed in Earth, or any planets you’ve been to”.
I grew up in a community where traditions of Northern Ghana are strongly upheld. For many centuries and counting, horses have played a really significant role in the culture and tradition of our ethnic group- the Dagombas. Seeing how important horses are to us, I have always had the passion and urge of owning a horse someday. Even though we are in a generation where technology is growing faster than we can imagine, some of us still have a long way to go in that regard and still rely on the ancient methods of doing things. There are so many personal reasons why I would like to buy a horse for myself. Below are a few of them:
Horses have always played a vital role in our transport system. We grew up listening to fairytales where we were told of how our great grandparents rode on horse backs during wars. It helped to cover more distance so as to conquer more lands. Not just in wars, horses really helped in hunting as well. In this era of ours, I would need a horse not to fight any war but to assist me in movement. I could easily get on my horse back and ride to any location of my choice. Not just that, I am sure if I had a horse I will reconsider my decision of hunting. In where I live, people still go on hunting. It is call “PIELI” in our local dialect. They pack themselves up in a truck and get transported to the hunting ground. If I had a horse, it will help prevent the inconvenience hunting comes with. These benefits are priceless to me as far as having a horse is concerned.
Physiologically, riding a horse is a form of exercise. Nowadays, I have considered playing football as my method of exercise. I am considering adding gym workouts to it. Riding a horse daily can be compared to carrying out any exercise at all. Not to talk about the pleasure it comes with. The ulterior motive of riding horse as a form of exercise is to help reduce the rider’s blood pressure by enhancing circulation of the blood. Instead of going to the gym or riding a bicycle everyday, I will rather ride a horse as my form of exercise if only I had a horse.

Another reason why I love to have a horse is because of recreation. In February 2017, I was in High School then. We had the chance to go on a field trip to a manufacturing and recreational center in the Central Region of Ghana. It is called the Kantanka Automobile Company Limited. Most people know of this place as only a manufacturing center. They manufacture some of the best electronics and automobiles in Africa. I was very shocked when I saw a recreational center as part of the company. They had animals including camels, ostriches, and what I love most-horses. The guards in charge of the place taught as some fun facts about horses and allowed us ride a few of them. This is an experience I will never forget. Having a few horses around me, this could be a big business venture as a lot of people will also love to have that recreational experience.
Finally, I will love to have a horse since it can help me in agriculture. Dating back to centuries ago, horses have always played a very important role in Agriculture. Horses help in tilling the land to make it ready to plant crops. With a horse, you can water your crops and apply manure. When the crops are grown and harvested, you can use a horse to convey the farm produce to your storage facility. This is basically all the procedures needed to have some crop yield in agriculture. Having a horse, it means I will have over 50 percent of what I need to start an agricultural venture.
The above are the reasons why I will choose to buy a horse.
