Today is the first day of a new month and despite there being nothing overly momentous about this month that sets it apart from others, there is one thing that makes it different and that thing relates to my lovely guy whose birthday falls into this month.
I like to celebrate his birthday but the problem is that he does not. It's that he hates birthdays, he just doesn't like to make a big deal, or any deal at all, of his own.
I know why, he explained it to me at length, and I totally understand and respect it, but that's not something I want to put on the internet due to how private and personal the reason actually is. Having said that, this year he's made a special dispensation and given me authorization to make a very small amount of fuss for his birthday which I'm happy about. He tole me it has to be miniscule, which is not going to be, so when he gives me that look he has upon realising the fuss is anything but miniscule I'll just tell him I didn't hear that part of the authorization conditions. I'm looking forward to doing something for his birthday, it's going to be quite special, for me, and he'll just have to tolerate it as best he can.

That made me grin when I read that you are having a birthday celebration to make yourself happy. LOL... I'm sure I'd be doing the same thing.
My older brother seemed most of his life to have no problem about birthdays, celebrating his or others, but then sometime in his 50s, all of the sudden he seemed to no longer interested in being celebrated for his own and he seemed quite weirdly serious about it. He still had no issues being part of celebrating everyone else's. I never knew the story behind it, if there really was one that anyone else would understand.
A girl must keep herself happy even when her insufferable guy is a grumpy bum and won't celebrate his own birthday right?
As I said, I know his reasons and it's understandable - not a story for Hive - but I like to try and make it special for him in little ways. I know he'll love this particular one though, or pretend to at least. I know I'll love it however.

I think he's getting the message that it won't be a tiny fuss. I'm the same as you, I love celebrating my birthday but many don't, and understandably so, but when you get the chance to do something it's great! It feels great!
What a great selection the second and third ones I love! And you give me the opportunity to know the first one, very good. Yes, today I shared my selection, it's a very good idea.
