Gone for a while

Sometimes it creeps up over time and other times it descends upon me like the sky crashing down upon my head; on this occasion it was the latter and, because it's pretty difficult to ignore such compelling thoughts, I acted.

The thought was that we needed to take some time out from our everyday existence and lives and do something different.

It's not that we don't like or enjoy our lives, just that the daily routine, unless interspersed with something different, can become boring and uninspiring and we always aim for an exciting and engaging life so I took matters into my own hands and booked a small getaway for us without discussing it with my guy. I figured it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission and, besides, I knew he wouldn't mind and needed a break just as much as I did being gone for a while wouldn't adversely effect our lives, it'd enhance life.

Due to some commitments it was always going to be difficult to go too far from home so I decided upon a holiday home on the coast only two hours from where we live. It seemed the perfect thing because we didn't want to do much other than relax and the town where the house was located is a very small place in which there was not much to do. Perfect.

The holiday home had a heated swimming pool, also perfect, and some lovely garden areas and a covered entertaining deck where I figured we'd eat our meals. The town has a few nice places to eat so I made the executive decision to bring no food of our own although I was warned I'd have an extremely grumpy man on my hands if there were no snacks at all so I made sure he was accommodated for - as if I'd forget his snacks.

I swam each day, the pool was large enough to do laps, we walked at the beach, stretched out in the garden on a blanket and read, and napped, played some board games and I made use of the opulent main bathroom...me and bubble baths go together like, well, bubble baths and me.

Each morning we'd wander into town, an easy walk, and have a long breakfast and bring something back for lunch to compliment my guy's snacks and for our evening meal went to one of the two restaurants, one seafood and the other an Italian/Mediterranean style restaurant; and one night we ordered pizza and ate in while listening to music and chatting.

We were only away for five days in all but the days seemed long and fulfilling, the relaxation seeped into our bodies and minds and we drove home feeling like it was exactly where we needed to be for those five days. There was a feeling of regret that we had to leave but it was overpowered by the deep sense of satisfaction that our getaway had lived up to our expectations and provided a few moments of relaxation and rejuvenation.

How the other half live! I have a private pool on my bucket list:)

I don't think I'd be letting random people stay at my house if my house was as nice as the one we stayed in although I suppose it's a good way to generate some income on something that might otherwise sit empty. I didn't mind living there for five days thought, it was a nice break and the pool was amazing; I don't have one of my own but love to swim so it worked out nicely.

How necessary it often is to escape from everyday life in order to recharge one's batteries. I am glad to read what I read and that you had such a good time and came back refreshed. I'm sure there will be moments like this again and again.

Hugs Becca.💗

I hope there's more moments like this, longer ones too. For now we're back to work and that trip seems like a distant memory despite being only a short time ago.

I am sure there will be moments like this very soon, so be it.💗

I'm also sure.

Vacation is often in a place that is not far from the place of residence (which is comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy it - only that pool is enough), the right choice for a short vacation.
Without planning a trip and a long journey, at a location that is two hours away, you can rest much better than if you planned a trip and went hundreds or thousands of kilometers further to a popular tourist destination.
And as you described, reading a book, swimming, walking around the place and visiting restaurants, a heavenly short vacation.
