Hello, you can call me... (Weekend-Engagement 112)

Greetings to everyone. I have been pondering on my recent experiences from which I may be able to draft a meaningful blog but nothing comes to my mind until I come across @galenkp 's weekend engagement 112.

This is my first time joining galenkp 's weekend-engagement.

Nickname given or received

Do you have a nickname or pet name given to you by someone else? What is it and why were you given it? Or, have you given someone else a nickname that stuck What is it and how did they earn it?

Hello, my real name is Regina and people call me Tata, Ren, Reg, Regine, and Tatskie. How did I come up with so many nicknames? I am called by my nickname depending on what stage of my life we met.

Tata is a nickname given to me by my family. Since I was born my parents assigned this nickname to me. I love it because it is short, simple, and very easy to remember. It served well the purpose of having a nickname. Tata is a very common nickname. But the only people who call me this are the people within my family circle. I don't know why or how it becomes somewhat exclusive to family members or people connected to my family, I think it just happens. Though there are a few outside the family circle but seldom.

Friends and classmates I met during my elementary and high school years call me Ren, short for Regina. My name during this time was pronounced "Rehina". So Ren was the most convenient way to call me and that's how I got the nickname Ren. Though I somewhat do not like it very much because I do not like how my name was pronounced. It sounds way too old-fashioned. At that time, English names for me are the cool ones. Well, I was young and was fitting into society, and English names have become popular names used in the country.

When I was in college, it was when I decided to have my name pronounced as Regina (Rejina). When people asked me how I pronounce my name, I would proudly say "Rejina". That is how they come up with the nickname Reg. This time I like it better than the other one. It sounds way cooler and modern. But there are a few who called me Regine. They say we have the same name as the very popular singer, dubbed Asia's songbird Miss Regine Velasquez. But don't misunderstand, I am not a singer, not even an "ok voice" to be singing in karaoke. 😆😆 In my workplace I am also called Reg.

Tatskie is a nickname given to me by my sister-in-law when she was still my sister-in-law-to-be. The first time I got to meet her, she immediately call me Tatskie when I told her my nickname is Tata. Maybe she wanted it to sound cute. From then on, my other in-laws also call me Tatskie which I use now as my name here on hive.

But the sweetest nickname given to me is Bibi (Baby). I only allow one person to call me this. That one person is my father. I was the third child in the family and I even thought I would be the youngest. For a long time, I was the youngest child but after 12 years, our youngest came. And maybe the reason why my father calls me Bibi is that I was his youngest for a long time. Until now he still calls me Bibi even when I am an adult now and it is like music to my ear every time he calls me that.

Whatever nickname people wanted to call me, I appreciate it because it is how they want to remember me. I take it as a sign that I am someone who has a special place in their hearts. I believe it is their way to express familiarity and fondness towards me.

Sort:

My sibling nickname is also Ren, derived from his name Clarence. I prefer to call him to his nickname because his full name is too long hahaha.

That's so sweet that you're father likes to you call you bibi despite not being the youngest anymore. Buti di nagtatampo yung bagong bunso? hahaha

Hehe... Hindi naman naintindihan naman nya kasi late sya dumating 😆😆😆

hahahahaha sabagay 🤣

Hi Ren! 😊 In my language the G would be pronounced as "geh" as in "good" not "ji".

Oh my name would sound more awkward in your language ... Hehe
