Higuerote, Miranda State- Venezuela

Having the possibility to go out and breathe fresh air is something priceless; two years ago the only thing we did was to pray for our life and that of our family, we could not even go out the window for fear of getting sick. A year ago there was not much difference, in my case I had my birthday just in the holy week and I had to spend it locked up again because I was infected with covid 19; today I can only be thankful that a year later I can go out, share with my family, be in the sea, walk hand in hand with my husband and my children with joy.

This weekend there is only one word to describe all that I have lived and feel and it is called "THANK YOU".

I love going out for walks, seeing new places, eating tasty food, sharing and laughing with my friends and of course having a drink while I feel the sea breeze touching my skin. What more can I ask from life? God gave me the opportunity to live and I can only say "Thank you".

Today I would like to share with you some moments I lived in our house in Higuerote, a city in Miranda State, just an hour away from Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. We went there on Thursday afternoon with my husband's family who dared to go out with their children and give them a walk on the beach.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, this family had not been going anywhere, my brother-in-law has been very careful and fearful of contagion. So I was very happy to see them again and the truth is that seeing the smiles on the children's faces when they saw the sea was priceless!

After arriving home and arranging things we shared the chores, the women to the kitchen and the men to buy some things at the liquor store and the fishmonger. Being a village located in front of the sea, it is common that they live from fishing; this benefits us because we always get fresh fish at a good price. After having a delicious "arroz a la marinera" for lunch, of which there was no photo to show because we were hungry, we went to enjoy the sunset on the shores of the "Cuchivano beach" in the center of Higuerote.

There something happened that I did not expect, the children were not even five minutes after arriving and they asked their parents to let them go into the sea. They don't know how nice it feels to be part of someone's happiness. They bathed there for a while and we took a lot of pictures of them. That day I felt like a professional photographer, I think I'm getting a little better at my technique every day. 😄

In some trips not everything is perfect, I'm not going to lie to you. That night when I got home the power went out, although for many it seems normal in my country I still resist to go through that. Luckily my family is quiet and we sat on the patio, we lit a fire and there we stayed there telling stories, laughing, having a drink and even singing rancheras we spent the time, until the light came on at about 11 pm.

Good Friday, a beach day for some and a day of recollection for others.

Good Friday is sacred to me, I remember that since I was a child my mother taught us that on this day we remembered the passion and death of Jesus and therefore we must pray and fast. This day I got up early and together with my sister-in-law we cooked a delicious breakfast of arepas and canned sardines, then they went to the beach and I stayed alone, in silence, praying and meditating a little. Almost at noon I got into the kitchen, I wanted to prepare something delicious for my family so that when they arrived from the beach everything would be ready.

I cooked a delicious cabbage and carrot salad, plantains and seasoned the fish. With the heads I made a wood-fired consommé that was enough to raise the dead. Then I fried the fish in the same fire in the open air. They arrived at about 4 o'clock, saying that they did not want to leave the beach, in Puerto Frances.

At night we lit a bonfire and the moon accompanied us over my house. That night I would not change for anyone, the truth is that I was very happy and now those memories stay with me and bring a few smiles on my face.

San Francisquito beach

On Saturday we had planned to go to the beach early to return to our apartment in the afternoon and so we did. That morning we headed to a place called San Francisquito, it is a beach with clear water and calm waves, the water is warm and because it is farther away than usual few people arrive.
As always when I go to the beach I like to walk along the shore, feel the sand on my feet, collect seashells for my crafts and take lots of pictures.

To end my weekend I could not have done it in a better way than sharing some time with God. This Resurrection Sunday I felt it from the heart, the message that the priest gave in the mass touched my soul and although the mass lasted two and a half hours I did not mind, I left happy, singing and praising God for having given us the opportunity to live after he died on the cross for us.

I say goodbye with a phrase that Father Pedro said: "May the death of Jesus be worth it, because resurrection is life, it is peace, joy and way".
