Ever since I arrived in Egypt for my graduate studies, life has really not been fun, as moving from hostel to school and school to the hostel has become routine. I have become used to a lot of things that I couldn't have accepted I would ever be used to in my home country, Nigeria.
Things like starting my weekend on Friday and going to lecture on Sunday, not having to take alcohol (because it is forbidden), not clubbing, and several more! Initially, it was really difficult, but I don't miss a lot of those anymore. I guess I'm now an Egyptian since I am in Egypt; as the saying goes, "When you are in Rome, you behave like the Romans!"
Back then in Nigeria, my weekend was always fun-filled, as I often spent my time with friends and discovering and exploring my environment. I have always loved to explore nature's best endowments, such as beaches, waterfalls, zoos, and so on.
Egypt becoming boring is a result of several factors beyond my control. As a graduate student who has requirements to meet and research to carry out, you must agree with me that tourism is my least worry.
However, I was amazed when the opportunity to do what I love doing on days like these (weekends) surfaced. As a student fellowship group, we were given the last-minute surprise of spending some time at the beach of the Mediterranean Sea off Egypt's coast in Alexandria City last Friday. So far, this has been my best weekend since arriving in Egypt.
Outings and interacting with nature are the things I enjoy the most. Reason been that I get the best inspiration from observing and communicating with the most beautiful craft of God. Of course, I enjoy what we are doing in the lab; my research field is related to sustainable and clean energy storage devices for Internet of Things (IoTs).
However, I engage in effective thinking in serene environments with lovely view. After reviewing literature, I often get inspiration sitting outside (mostly at night, as I am currently), then carry out the plans the next morning in the lab.
Enjoying a weekend holiday is a very happy thing in my opinion. many other people enjoy weekends just by working and working until they are old.
Weekend it's a good time to rest, I'm glad you make use of your own nicely doing something you enjoyed most.
