Lakehouse Beginnings 2021

Hi fellow Weekenders,

This weekend we started doing some of the work outside to help clean up the lake house again this summer!

Family Project

The lake house is one of the most important things for us for a few reasons but one of the important ones is that it gives us a place to be outside in nature and actually get to enjoy ourselves. No fools complaining about silly things like at the condo area we live in, just us and what we want to do. It’s very relaxing in many ways!

We turned the place from complete shambles last year to something that I think looks halfway decent now. There’s still a significant amount of work to be done but that’s okay, there’s plenty of time and the little man is a year older now so he will have different ideas and ways of doing things. He will be a really important member of the team this year, as he always is but now that he’s a little stronger he can do different things without getting tuckered out.

He’s helping me assess the area here for what we have planned for the day. Siena found a deal on some mulch for the yard, 5 bags of 2 cubic feet of mulch for 10$! That’s pretty awesome and we’ve been trying to figure out what to do with the side of the house here to make it look better. We are hoping that we can do more work to clean the place up this year now that all the major work is done like cutting down the dozens of trees that were dotting the property, we can focus on some other stuff to get it into shape. The hope is that we can have friends over and not be embarrassed that it looks like hell lol. We won’t be doing anything to the house itself since we don’t own it but putting some sweat equity into the yard is an easy win plus it gets us exercise in the meantime anyways. Win for us!

The little man is helping me rake the junk out of the side of the house. He of course took the really nice metal rake and made me use the plastic one I bought for him lol. He was having fun though so it was all good.

For those that might not have seen it, below is what the side of the house looked like last year. It was in rough shape! There were things overgrown everywhere and it took a good two days to get it cleaned up. We still have some stuff to get rid of now but that’s pretty easy stuff so we don’t mind. The big parts to go are these crazy trees. There are some all over the place but the worst ones are starting to grow right up against the house. We will be cutting those down and getting them out of there for sure! Less work we have to do later in life when we don’t want to be doing that stuff.

We scored twenty bags of the stuff for 40$ which I think is a great deal. Normally it’s 5$ a bag I think so less than half the price is a good win for us. Plus it was a tractor supply store so that was fun, I like the chain they have some cool things.

Normally we would use the Subaru for this type of stuff but the thing is completely full of junk so my little car had to do! It was the most that the car ever had and may ever have in it lol. I had to do two trips to get the 20 bags because I ran out of room and I didn’t think that the car would even move with 20 bags of mulch in it at once. I didn’t want to ruin my suspension or anything.

It turned out pretty good I think! We had fun, the little man did as well and we importantly got some exercise out of it all. I haven’t lifted that much weight in a long time so it felt great to get the muscles moving again and doing some work. These past few months have been a little challenging so I felt my muscles starting to wither away and my sanity along with it. Getting out and doing some work as a family was a great way to start the spring. There’s much more projects to come with the place, so stay tuned for those next in the little series here!

Feedback from the April 1st Hive Power Up Day
Hive Power Up Day - April 1st 2021 - Hive Power Delegation

We've been having fantastic weather here, so there's been LOTS of work going on around the house. I'm fortunate enough to have a property that is its own little getaway. I miss being closer to a large body of water, but the local river isn't too far away, and the Finger Lakes are a short drive.

Yeah being on the water like this is incredible for us. We've never had such a thing before so it's an incredible experience! It's been a lot of fun getting into the work for us and it's a good thing to do and show the little man. One thing we appreciate is the transition from cold to warm lol

Red mulch on the car seats...This is not suiting my OCDness bro. 😁

Hahah yeah, the Subaru is a bit of a disaster right now so we had to take my car. Not designed for this stuff but no leaks on the seats surpassingly! 30 bags and no leaks was great

30 bags? WTF? Is it a Ram 3500?

Hahah hell ya man! Kia Ram 3500 ounce hahah

Lol...Fair call.🤣

We have just been replanting lately. Doing a herb garden sort of. Will post when it grows. Did a lot last year, maybe I'll find some pics of how we made the lounge corner.

You got a nice little place there.

Thanks Anna! It’s a definite treasure to have and we are lucky that we have it. My wife reconnected with some family that always liked her compared to the other cousins but with life being busy it was hard to make time. We went there once years ago but before the whole lock down crap happened we started to talk to him more and got in touch then once the lock downs happened he asked us to come up and hang out as a way to get out and it went on from there. Was great!

We are going to do a garden this year as well, or at least try to. We have some stuff that we are going to put together hopefully it will be successful!

Your garden sounds awesome, we don’t need much so growing small things is a huge help I think. It’s satisfying when you can pick stuff out from it when you need or want it.

That is great indeed, sometimes things just happen at the right time. We only grow some herbs in our garden, this place is still a rental so nothing to live the dream.

Yeah that’s great. We did only basil last year and tomatoes, cucumbers and basil the year before. When you don’t own the place it’s hard so I get where you’re coming from there!

Yah it sucks, esp these days when growing your own stuff becomes a little more important. I have mixed feelings cause I never planned to stay here and still want to go somewhere else. Just don't know where or how lol. But suddenly I wasted years here and have not moved a bit...oh well, I hope one day I'll be on my way again 😄 .
