Yard Work, Packing and Olympics

This weekend I wanted to take on the challenge of writing about two topics from the #weekend-engagement writing topics. Yesterday I posted about Aging Healthy responding to one of the topics. In this post will be responding to the topic of what I am doing for the weekend and why.

This weekend is mostly going to be yard work, picking up around the garage and my son’s old room and then watch some Olympics. Nothing real exiting I know, but that is what I have planned.

That said, the wife can change my plans quick, so something else, or several somethings may be added to the list before the weekend is over.

So why just yard work, picking up in the garage and the Olympics? Why not more?

It has been raining off and on for the last week here. That has made keeping up yard work abysmal. All the rain kept the grass wet, so mowing had to be put off, as did the weed trimming. We have a dry day today with the sun out, so perfect day to get this done. I just have to go slow about it as I don't whoop it on like I used to.

My youngest son just moved out this week. His new apartment can't hold all his stuff along with his roommate's stuff. So, we are going to pack up what he doesn't take and store it in the half-finished basement where his bedroom was. I plan to eventually turn it into my “man-cave”. Again, slow and steady will win the day.

Then there is watching the Olympics. I enjoy sport, especially the Olympics. I like the more traditional Olympic sports though and they have lots of track & field and swimming on this weekend. The wife likes other stuff, like underwater basket weaving and naked cactus wrestling (yes, I made those up). So sometimes we watch the silly stuff that I feel doesn’t belong in the Olympics. Not much effort involved here, plus i will get rest after the above two tasks are being completed.

It should be an uneventful weekend for me and the old lady, but at least I will get something done and still enjoy watching the “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”

Lots of heat from the Olympics...

Still haven't found time to watch it yet...

Yeah, its been crazy. Hopefully you can find the time before it ends.

We have the same kind of weather at the moment and it means it's mental when it's dry as so much work has built up to do!

We have a fairly simple lawn. Not a lot of landscaping and weird shit so easy to keep trimmed and mowed.

I've got some weird shit but thankfully still a lot of flat so it's not too bad

Thats good. It makes it a real pain to mow when you have weird shit everywhere you turn. LOL

It totally does! 🤣🤣

A nice easy weekend is a good thing! I really haven't watched much of the Olympics this time around, just the highlights. How did the projects go this weekend?

Lawn is taken care of.

I haven't been in the basement since my son was in it last moving stuff out. I am scared to see what is left and how trashed it may be down there now. So I am going down there in a few. If it is a shit show, it will wait until he can come back over and help.

What have you thought of the Olympics so far? I think there's too much swimming I guess and because Australia is good at it the coverage we see it focused on it. I'm happy the track and field has started and have enjoyed the hockey and water polo, kayaking and rowing as well.

I think it is okay, but I would like to see wrestling, boxing, and more endurance events. I look forward to seeing the track and field too. As far as swimming, I think the rivalry between AUS and USA in the pool makes it an attractive item to watch for many. An yes, it is a little much. Too many heats and stuff being aired. I would rather see that space filled with the events previously missing air time...wrestling, boxing...LOL.

Yeah, AUS and USA go head to head in the pool which is good to watch. It would be good to see our runners a little more competitive but some of our field athletes do a good job I guess. I'm hoping the hockey guys and girls can push for gold, looking good so far and we have Noemi and Jess Fox kayaking for medals too. For a county with only 27 million people Australia goes ok I guess. The medal tally is looking ok for us.

It does look good on the medal tally. I did take in some womens rugby the other day. I wouldn't screw with those gals. They'd put the hurtin' on ya.

Lol...yeah the sevens? You should see the Australian women's rugby league (NRLW). Brutal!

One eye on the sporting events at the Olympics, a brilliant time to see how human effort is stretched to the maximum.

Feel sorry for some being embroiled in bullshit, rules should be in place after many years of running the event.

Just fiinished watching some gymnastics and what they do is just amazing. As far as the BS I try to ignore it, but it looks bad when people bring politics and stuff into the Olympics.

Gymnastics always fascinating to watch what heights people are able to attain using their body, swimming, diving, athletics, most the sports I enjoy.

Many times have to move off from some of the crazy, it is not healthy for anyone to become so negative in private viewpoint. Not fair to the sportsman and woman who dedicate such a large portion of their lives to achieve ultimate in their fields.
