Should I stay or should I go?

I’ve never been much of a planner. I tend to blow with the prevailing wind. If you’d told me six years ago that within months I’d be living off the fat of the land in the countryside, I would have called you crazy. I was a city girl, in love with the hustle, the bustle and the convenience, everything within easy reach and always someone to natter to. And I do love a good natter with a stranger, the stranger the better.

But when we heard on the wires shortly before the COVID nonsense hit that something was coming that would change life as we knew it and make city living less desirable, we upped sticks and fled to the country quick smart. Being locked down in a city apartment without access to shops or a gym without a mask would have been a living hell. It was a good decision. We’ve lived happily ever after and if the world was not in an unmitigated mess I’d probably die here, owning nothing and being happy.

But alas the winds of war are blowing in Europe and an island in the middle of the Atlantic is not the best place to be. Besides we’re expecting the imminent collapse of the financial system, a possible bail-in and come October, according to Ursula Van Der Whatsit, we might even see the introduction of the digital euro. With war comes financial controls preventing money from being moved out of the country. That'd sure put a stop to our gallop! Then there’s the vaccine passport all wrapped up and ready to go.

None of these things delights, excites or suits my freedom-loving nature and anarchist lifestyle. Perhaps the one thing I could conceivably change in my life that would have a positive effect is getting the hell out of Dodge.

Or maybe I’m just nuts!

Posted in response to galenkp's weekend experience prompt asking ' what things could you conceivably change and implement in your life that would have a positive effect in the next five years?'

The images are random, taken on the streets of Dublin and do not necessarily reflect my views.

Sort:

That says it all!

I was a city girl, in love with the hustle, the bustle and the convenience

Do you like living in the sticks? With all you've got going on there, your domes and your gym and your peas and potatoes, I would never guess you've been there such a short time.

But do lemme guess who you were listening to on the wires six years ago. Were his initials JB? He's a big reason I left my version of Dodge, just north of NYC, but I'm sure he'd still be warning me to get out of New York State (since he's warning anyone in the US to leave), where everything is illegal and far left looneys, bordering on communists, are in charge.

You mean Justin Bieber?🤪🤪

It was actually Martin Armstrong. Around the end of 2019 his computer, Socrates, forecast sudden mass unemployment coming in early 2020 and Martin advised leaving the city and finding somewhere you could be as self-sufficient as possible. So we did.

I do love living here but I've no idea how we'll manage once CBDCs come along. I have no intention of signing up for a digital ID, no intention at all, so we'll be excluded from the financial system entirely with no off ramps for our crypto. We're thinking of heading to South America, perhaps Nicaragua.

I presume the JB you mean is Jason Breshears.

Nicaragua looks good to me too. One of those units on the beach that Justin Bieber recommends.

Hahaha, yeah! Jaysus, I forgot about Jeff B. I am a dimwit. Yes, Gran Pacifica bound we are to have a look around and see if we can stand the heat and the bugs. It'd be good to be around likeminded people. There are very few of them here.

That was my next question, if there are others like you. There are quite a few like me in upstate NY, although I do seem to be the farthest out. Folks at least listen to me here, unlike when I was just north of NYC. I'm thinking of heading to Tennessee, but if the whole country goes CBDC and digital, Tennessee won't do me any good. I do think about getting one of those units in Nicaragua, a small one just in case. How I would get there if all goes south I do not know. I pay for nearly everything with cash, and suggest that folks hold on to it, not put it in the bank, so that we could do transactions with cash if necessary.

Start a local currency? I don't know how long that would sustain one, though.

Whatever happens, it sure will be interesting.

Are CBDCs and digital IDs definite for Ireland?
How can there be no off ramps for crypto? I don't understand that.

Definitely definite. Ursula Van Der Leyen announced a few weeks ago they'd have a digital euro by October and that's the beginning of the end. I'm expecting digital ID to follow pretty quickly and that will close the crypto off ramps for the non-compliant.

Out of Dodge is better than inside of Dodge, so getting out and staying out should be a goal and applauded when people achieve it; a much better lifestyle than the city!

You're not nuts.

Probably are.

Not.

Yeah, you are.

Probably not.

But could be for certain.

Or maybe conceivably not.

Or yeah.

We are in agreement then!:) I just love a decisive man.

Lol.

Well that was a bloody good decision, moving out to the sticks. I think leaving Ireland, is a good choice as well. Sad that it has come to that though, real sad.
I feel like I will be okay here in the mountain, but South America is always in my mind. I have friends who have headed off to Paraguay and bought some land xxx

Sad indeed. I hate leaving Ireland again but watching the situation develop from a distance seems like a good idea.

Where, oh where would you go? Once you find a safe haven, would you tell me about it? I thought Ireland would be a safe place, but...no???

We're thinking South /Central America. We've travelled there quite a bit over the years and find it a lot like the Ireland of old. Ireland's been destroyed by legislation from Europe and mass immigration. Then there's the coming digital ID, CBDCs, war, and severe shortages if the last war is anything to go by. That's not how I want to spend my declining years. The question is, am I actually insane?

am I actually insane?

No, just aware. But that can drive you insane :)

Thanks for the answer...food for thought. Not for me. At my age, where am I going?

Governments did a test on how much they could push forward before people rebelled... Well they could do everything they wanted, you strike? Bank account frozen... You don't vaccinate? No work no money and so on

Exactly! The hounds are closing in. He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day:)

As someone who passed the pandemic in a city apartment, gotta say I envy you and it definitely sounds like you made the right call. As for getting out of dodge, it seems to me it's becoming increasingly hard to do so, these crazies seem to be (over)reaching everywhere. Where will one be safe and out of their tyrannical, psychotic reach, I wonder.

I don't think there's anywhere safe in the long term but in the short term Europe is doomed to war, depression and most likely a bail-in. I'm thinking Central America, possibly Nicaragua, may be safer for a few years anyway.
We didn't even feel the Covid nonsense here in the middle of nowhere. We went where we liked, shopped and certainly didn't follow any arrows or wear masks. It seems people are more easy going in the countryside.

Being out in the country is where it's at. We had no trouble either with the pandemic crap and still I laugh out loud when I think of the drivers in their cars alone, totally masked up. Common sense had vanished lol. Sadly, the sprawl is moving toward us here from both directions. Nicaragua, eh? What a change of scenery that would be, and lifestyle too! I feel like I'm too old now to relocate, so I may just dig in my heels and give 'em hell lol

I feel the same. I'm far too ancient to be running, We're likely crazy but we feel like the hounds are closing in....the digital euro has just been announced and today the draft WHO Pandemic Treaty was agreed. Apparently Nicaragua didn't do the Covid nonsense. Sounds like my kinda place!

I don't think you're likely crazy...I, too, think the noose is tightening. I just stand pat, but make quiet preparations. I feel like the digital currency is a foregone conclusion. What stands out louder for me, is the pandemic 'treaty'. Hmmm...wonder if Nicaragua has any old folks homes?

It is true that after Corona, people were afraid to return to their normal life outside, but it is much more important for all of us to return to our normal routine, like we used to go to the gym and buy our essentials. If we do not want to live a normal life, our health will deteriorate. It is a fact that life is dear to every person, but now things have changed. We must use precautionary measures. But life does not pass at home. There is mental tension, so a good life can only be lived by going outside.

Thanks for your comment.

Life is full of changes and thanks to this we improve in many aspects, I know it is a difficult decision to make but the difficult path is almost always the best, maybe it would be good to look again at city life and face all the challenges that this would bring you.

Thanks for the visit.
